I think openendstraight summed it up quite well!
I disagree with much of what you posted. As far as why would anyone fake a $3 cigar.
First off just because most of us know how much these sticks go for, doesn't mean everyone does. Some people might pay 4 or 5 times that for a stick they think is Cuban if they did not know anything about cigars and prices. Most people that have never smoked cigars hear Cuban , and just want to try one because they no they are not allowed.
Second if someone faked said cigar and only had $2 or $3 dollars into it, but could sell it for 4 or 5 times that, don't you think it becomes profitable at that point. The is a profit of $10 to $15 per cigar.
I am not saying that the cigar in question is not a cuban, just that I doubt it is a RyJ Petit Corona, which is what they are trying to pass it off as.
I disagree with much of what you posted.
first, these are not passing as RyJ PC's. They are Coronitas en cedro. Previous incarnations were machine made, although now they could be tripa corta. And they are CHEAP. So cheap that to fake one is stupid. It's no different as to fake a JLP or a Quintero. Why fake a particular cigar that no one has really heard of (its not like they are very good or popular? I've never seen it.
Counterfitters stick to high return products with enough name recognition to snare the unaware, not 2 dollar peso cigar.
I'll bet they are real...not very good cigars, but real. If your friend paid more than a couple of bucks for it, then THAT's where the rip off was.
ive split a few boxes.
they often deceptively sport blotches and other non uniformity imperfections.
fakes are a big $$ business so i doubt this is one
good albeit sometimes ugly smokes.
Sorry, but you are wrong about the band. The band is exactly correct for RyJs produced after 2008. The picture posted is of the older band.whether or not you think it is "good business" to fake this cigar is not really the point.
the band is obviously wrong. Why would you bet against proof like that?
touche:dunno: I have nothing to back up my claim except the endless pages of google images that do not show the word cuba.Sorry, but you are wrong about the band. The band is exactly correct for RyJs produced after 2008. The picture posted is of the older band.
so, again we see how disecting the minutea of bands leads to inaccurate conclusions about authenticity.
Disagree all you want, but you only know that it is cheap and not a good cigar because you are a cigar smoker. If everyone was an informed cigar smoker their would not be a market for glass top Cohiba fakes, or any other for that matter.I disagree with much of what you posted.

Don if you go to Habanos Sa website you can see your pic of the old band. But if you look at newer lines of RyJ (short churches and other new releases) they all carry the words Habana Cuba on the bottom of the band.Disagree all you want, but you only know that it is cheap and not a good cigar because you are a cigar smoker. If you want to get very technical it is a pic of a Petit Cetros en Cedro 40 x 5, i typed Petit Carona by mistake.
And just because you have never seen it I guess that closes the discussion.
As i said before, smoke it and if you like it who cares.
Just light it up over a nice glass of scotch. If the cigar does suck well.......at least the scotch was good.

That is the correct logic. These are R&J Coronitas en Cedro, not nearly a likely cigar to be counterfeit. These are not uncommon, but are very popular for the taste and value.why would someone counterfeit a $3 smoke? with the cedar and all.... hmmmm....
