This is one of the most popular ways to store cigars here in Sweden. Very easy, very cheap and works perfect. All you need is some beads and you are good to go. I have 2 70 liter for aging.

I personally use an igloo cooler as I feel the seal is much more reliable along with being somewhat insulated.

Yeah, I would think those things are not meant to be air tight. I use those to store clothes and put in the attic. Even with beads, is humidity control not an issue?

No! I didnt belive in this when they told me about it but when guys that has been storing 10 years tells you this works I tryed it. And I have to say it works perfect even with the weather we have here in Sweden. The difference in temprature and humidity is big here and they work really really well. I have ccs for a lot of money in there and i would NEVER do it unless i was 100% on this.

I have one bowl with 2 pounds of beads in each one of them and the best way is to have it filled with cigars to make sure the humidity is under control!

I wish I could store and age cigars with such a simple and low cost solution such as a large tupperware container, but unfortunately I will have to employ the aid of a cooler or wineador for as long as stay in the area of Southern Ontario in which I currently reside. Temperatures here typically range from about 8 to 100 degrees Fahrenheit (-14 to +38 Celsius) throughout the year, with the RH firmly in the 80's-90's during the summer months and the 40's-50's in the winter.

However, if you live in a more stable climate than me, or simply employ central air/heat PROPERLY (people around these parts tend to "play" the how long can you go without heating and air conditioning game, my parents included), the plastic container solution is probably just as good as any tupperdor.

Well that should work, here we have -29 celsius in the winter to +35-40 in the summer and humidity in the winter can drop to 25-30 RH in the summer up to 70-75 RH. Still works perfect. Only thing I make sure there is never direct sunlight on the plastidors. One thing, and i have learned this from the habansts over here, I freeze EVERYTHING (cigars + box) before putting them in any plastidor or humidor!

Freezing takes care of the fear of cigar beetles for the most part, but I don't know if it stops mold. That would be my main concern over aging cigars in a setup like this. Personally, with such high humidity in my area, I still think I'd shy away from using this kind of storage method as I am still concerned about, and have no real defense against humidity spikes atm. Its great that we've had a chance to share this information, hopefully now it will help other people with storage issues.
