HAHA, ok here is the deal, I am pretty sure I broke at least one bone on the top of my foot. Dishes accident....:dunno: girlie accidentally knocked a really heavy stainless steel pot on my foot from about 5' up. I can't walk without a lot of pain or flex my toes, its swollen to all hell, ace bandaged and icing.

Just need to know if its worth the doctor visit? Don't really have the cash right now for a ER run and exams. I have broken my toes many times during my martial arts competition days and probably even my feet a few times, never went to DR for any of that..

I know its dumb, but as long as I keep it wrapped and there are no bones sticking out any funny places, what are the chances it'll be permanently jacked?
:rolling: Gives me a reason to sit around and enjoy some cigars, not that I needed it, but anything to justify my chillaxin is always welcome.

Thanks bros...

best,
B

I broke my foot once, had a cast for three weeks instead of the recommended 6 and occasionally still have pain in that foot. So, you should get it properly taken care of.

Not to hijack or politard your thread but I can't imagine having to worry about paying for an ER visit. Hope your foot's ok bro!
We cant imagine paying 35 dollars a cigar, 6 dollars for milk, 40 dollars a case for Budweiser or even 6 dollars a liter for gas! Touche!
Go get the foot looked at!

Yeah, America is awesome with this sort of thing.

... I don't really have a family doc, so I usually end up at something like Instacare, which is usually 1,000 bucks no matter what the condition is, a cold or a bullet in the arm... LOL. Still cheaper than the ER.

Although it's not a substitue for a Doctor's visit, you can try MD.com or any of the other medical websites and get a good idea of what is medically wrong.

I know it's tough right now...Many folks are doing exactly what you are doing by really avoiding medical care due to the cost and/or economic scenarios at home. Not fun!

I hope everything turns out okay for you :)

IF you did fracture it and it is nondisplaced, you'd probably be put in a cast and told to stay off of it for 4-6 weeks. keep it iced and elevated. that would seem the most likely from the type of injury you described.
if, on the other hand, the break is displaced, it would need to be surgically fixed (pinned) and you recover from there. only an xray can tell you for sure.
ice, elevation, non weightbearing and ibuprofen are you best bets at this point.

I am with out medical insurance and we had to take my daughter to the ER a while back because of a seizure she had a t school. 6 hours, a cat scan, an MRI, and blood work. $15,000 bill a week later. and no answers.

As far as this injury goes, the swelling could be a tissue injury, but the fact you can't flex your toes, leads me to think a fracture of one of your metatarsals. I would think an X-ray and a pro-opinion would be good. I should have gone to the ER after a car accident once, and did not, mostly to avaoid a DUI, but it took me almost 2 years to get full use of my thumb back.

I feel for you on that brother, my little sis had to file for bankruptcy awhile back for medical issues and she had insurance. I am against socialized whatever just as much as the next guy, but something really needs to get changed/fixed. I NEVER go to the Dr unless I have no choice, it just costs much more than I guess I feel my general health is worth... That is pretty sad.

I too would avoid the ER, however I would cal your family doctor and get it looked at. If you dont have a family doctor try to get one, however there are a lot of walk in clinics popping up now days you can look for one of them as well.

Have a few drinks that will help with the pain as well.

I'd get it looked at. No reason to have problems with it for the rest of your life if you can avoid it now.

Insurance cost sucks we pay for both my wife and mine out of pocket. $250 a month for me and $190 a month for her, but the flip side is that we can afford to go to the doctor when we need to. I gladly sacrifice a lot of other stuff so I can pay that $440 a month. It's worth the peace of mind.

I'd get the foot checked... I sprained twice each ancle and broke once my foot... Since the parkour, I've been getting pains again, stupidly, because I didn't let my left foot heal the proper way, and ever since it's been cracking.

if you have a public hospital they should have a program where they pay most of the bill if you meet certain income guidelines which are usually pretty high you can call billing for the details. if by friday it still bugs you I would go get it checked. in boot both of my feet were really jacked up instead of going to medical like I should have I chose 800 motrin now I walk funny & probably will the rest of of my life. your feet are very important you should prob get this checked.
