maybe just upload coordinates to the burning leaf!
You'll actually find a few. Last time I was up there, I had talked to the guys about geocaching. While we sat there smoking, we saw a dad and his 2 daughters go hunt one out. Then I fired up our GPS, and saw where another one was in the parking lot. I took W.B. and Barndog out for the hunt, and we managed to find one!

Well I did not find anything yesterday. I know the general area it is going to be in, but still do not have a GPS in my hand. We'll be on hold until I have that and then is on.

Congrats! When we get going on it, it does get really addictive. We don't always do the take/put thing-sometimes the fun can be in the find itself. I'm ready to get a new GPS already, but it's hard when we already have 5.

We do it, and really have a great time with it! Our tag there is TravelingGeoTrio-since our dog often goes on the hunts with us. I think we've found caches in 15 states. Most of the ones that I've been to, you could smoke a cigar while on the hunt-bonus. It was one of the things that seemed silly at first, and then we bought the $80 Geomate Jr. and went out for a few. It's great on road trips. You can stop in nearly any rest stop/roadside park and there is something there. I still need to get out and find one in CA, that's actually on our agenda this weekend.

It's overly silly, but rather amusing to find something you are hunting for. It gives us a place to take the dog for a good walk-and something entertaining for us on the same walk. If I had kids, and took a road trip-there is no way I wouldn't be geocaching along the way.
I think the oysters that Michael tried to poison us with were from a geocache.

I just got my new GPS, a Delorme Earthmate PN-40, WOW this thing is cool. I can just upload the Caches directly to it, choose one and all the same stuff that is on the website is right there. Is it quitting time yet?

well my ass is big enough to have it's own GPs coordinates. So with my new GPS I can always find it.

BTW I just found a samll tube with a beer cap glued to it. Under a rock in a planter on the side of the road. I'm going to be a cigar smoking hiker here pretty soon.

Finally, this weekend, after looking at all the ones in our area on my phone, I got my wife out with me to start finding some caches. I've told my 3 year old, it's "treasure hunting." He's all about it!! We didn't do so hot on Saturday. We found 2 out of 5. And since then, 2 of the ones we missed, were actually reported missing by the owners. Sooo... we went back out last night and found 2 more!! Here's the picture of my 3 year old son and me, holding our first find ever, in front of our local library!!

Only geocash I've ever found was in a cave near a climbing destination that a couple of friends and I frequent, I never took from or added anything to the stash, but it was neat to see others had left behind. It's funny I came across this thread when I did, last night I was out tooling around in downtown Niagara Falls and I ended up on top of a night club after a bit of free climbing, low and behold the first thought to cross my mind was "this would make a really cool spot for a geo cash".

I do occasionally. It's a fun way to get out for a walk, see some areas you wouldn't otherwise have any interest in and for me to find places to photograph.

Been geocaching from time to time for a few years...whenever we travel, we enter a few in the handheld GPS and if we have time, we hunt them down...it's good if you like nature trails and the thrill of the hunt. We often leave hot wheels cars in the boxes, since the "sport" is popular with boy scouts...

I'm also "yourplastic" on geocaching.com :)

This sucks... Apparently, since yesterday "recreation/hobby" sites are blocked at work, now. Soooo... I can't even get onto geocaching.com now. Stinks!

BTW... I'm TreeFrogFrank on there.

Funny you should mention this. I work at Camp Shelby, where we train National Guard and Reserve soldiers for combat. In WWII, they had a POW camp here for the germans. Well, I heard rumors of a swastika that they dug out into the ground so that, in the event of a german fly-over, they would fill the swastika with fule and ignite it in an effort to make their location known. Well, I went to googleing the thing trying to find it and I found geocaching.com. I signed up for geocaching.com to be able to see the page and was pretty intrigued, because this stuff really interests me! I haven't been back since, but I'm glad you posted this up! I didn't expect much to be in my area, because, well, I'm in South Mississippi. But, I searched within 30 miles of my zip and there's a ton! Totally excited, going to goof around on geocaching.com for a while!
