I just saw an ad for this the other day on accident really. I love the 5 Vegas Gold but it can be a little too mild for me sometimes. The PA broadleaf wrapper they're using apparently has a stronger flavor so I'm hoping that mixes nicely with the filler. I guess they're not do out for a week or so though so now I gotta wait...almost makes me wish I had found out after the fact.

75 views, 0 posts - ha how about that. Any way, my order of these just came in and they look great. Really looking forward to smoking one of these tonight.

Agree. I'm a big 5 Vegas fan (apocalypse, AAA, and the likes) but the gold just doesn't cut it for some reason. But as stated, good for the course or when I'm working on my bike.

I had one this morning on the ride into work. I was surprised at how good it was. I don't like the Gold's, but the Gold Maduros are very good. It was creamy mixed with some dark flavors. Oak maybe?

Yeah really, but as long as the fat lady stays cheap it's hard to resist. I'm hoping this maduro wrapper adds a little more oomph. I like the golds as they are - they're great for morning/yard smokes but sometimes I wish they weren't as mild.

Glad to hear it - that's exactly what I'm looking forward to and thought it would be. Which vitola? I bought the box press when they went up on special.

It was "The Brick" which is the box press.

Rumor is that the wrapper is dyed. Anyone heard this yet?
I have never tried the Gold cigar because I don't like mild cigars, but this maduro sounds intriguing.

I have not heard anything about the wrapper being dyed as this is the first I heard about this cigar, but I know broadleaf wrappers can be pretty damn dark... saw this first hand with the broadleaf that Pepin Garcia sources!

I trust Dan's (elderboy) judgment.. I will be getting some soon!
box press works good for me! I've heard it's the best, but I wonder
if the corona isn't good too!

Got a 5'r on Quick Bid for $15 so that will satisfy my lust for this stick after reading the reviews. They are already selling it by the box on CBID so if it's that good I expect a box is in my future.

I bought a box of the coronas. I will try to smoke one tonight and post a review
Welp... I tried one last night...

Overall the constuction wasn't very good. Rough looking with a bit a spongyness. But as we all know that doesn't necessarily make for a bad cigar... just one that's not fun to look at.

Again this is a corona (6" x 44) that I'm smoking. I have really begun to appreciate the smaller ring guages so I was happy to see that they are offering this size. After cutting the pre-light draw maybe just a bit tight very not bad and had a nice 'maduro' flavor. The first third had a nice smooth 'maduro' flavor with just a touch of pepper in the background. I say 'maduro' flavor because I'm not that good at picking out all the different nuances. I would like to say that there was some leathery, choclaty component to it but I couldn't tell that for sure. Once I got into the 2nd third the peppery flavor got a bit stronger and this pretty much kept up til the end. The 'maduro' flavor was still there just not as pronounced as the 1st third... probably being a bit over shadowed by the pepper I was tasting.

The burn was about what I expected from the shoddy construction. It was a bit unneven at times but always seemed to straighten up by itself. The only time I had to put a flame to it to revive it was when I got to chatting with my neighbor and didn't pay enough attention to it. It lit right back up and burned pretty nicely after that. Smoke time was about 1 hour.

CI is selling a box of these for $52. To me these are well worth it. Yeah the construction wasn't the best but for less than $3 each they are very tasty.

Larry, I am sure the construction problems are b/c CI ships their stuff extremely wet. I let my stuff sit for at least a week from them. I dry boxed mine about 12 hours before I smoked mine.

I just bought my first 5 Vegas cigars on Cigarbid and I'm looking forward to trying the line. I'm thinking a gold maduro purchase may also be in my near future.

Thanks for the review!
