Larry, I am sure the construction problems are b/c CI ships their stuff extremely wet. I let my stuff sit for at least a week from them. I dry boxed mine about 12 hours before I smoked mine.
The construction problems were more than just bein spongy. There were also major defects in the wrapper. But like I said in the review they only effected the burn a little. Overall it burned well.

What I didn't mention in my post is if the rest of these smoke and taste as good as the first they will be a regular item in my humi. I really enjoyed this cheap little stick

Not sure. I don't slobber all over my cigars like some do.
Nor do I.

Here is a quote from someone who smoked one...

"I too just finished a 5 vegas gold maduro and it was just okay. The wrapper was dyed and made my lips and finger tips orange. I smoked this one OTT, so I am going to give it another try after some rest. To me the Diesels are a much better smoke. "

Doh.... went and typed up a post and then deleted it on accident so here are some bullet points.

Good construction, packed well, no wrapper imperfections but maybe a little rough looking.
Great burn, lots of smoke, good draw - never had to touch it up.
Good flavor, kind of reminded me of a Padron 2000/3000 but with a little more pepper/chocolate.

I also didn't notice any dye on my fingers but I was slobbering on the thing either. This is probably one of the best cigars 5V has released and one of the better cheap smokes I've had. Fresh off the truck they're pretty good and it'll be interesting to see how they change. If I could go back in time and buy more of these on sale, I would - they're well worth it at their current pricepoint.

In response to that Diesel thing I thought those were great and though these aren't as good as that, they haven't rested/aged either. Diesels are a different kind of smoke though, much fuller/stronger than this and sometimes too much for my stomach.
