I thought about joining the NRA about 15 years ago. But never did? I know the NRA has done a lot of good things for gun owners of America and I'm very thankfull. When I was over at my friends house he gave me some old copies of the National Riffleman that his father had given him. I really enjoyed reading the magazines as I have gotten back into shooting and adding to my collection. I currently have a subscription to Guns and Ammo magazine and will probably ley it end, when it is up as I just subscribed to Handguns magazine which I enjoy more. I guess the NRA must have found out about my gun magazine subscriptions and mailed me a membership. The first one I tossed away. But they sent me another and claimed it was their final notice. After reading it this time and thinking about how things are going and all the good things the NRA has done. I've decided to try a 1 year membership out. The check will be in the mail tomorrow.

So what other BOTL's here are NRA members?

I am. I have been an annual member for the last three years. Someday I'll have the cash handy to just get a lifetime membership. I believe the second amendment is easily one of the most important elements of the American Constitution.

I was for years but decided that I couldn't deal with the constant phone calls anymore. They were getting as bad as telemarketers.

I used to be a member then went through a hard time and that was one of the things i had to give up. I've been thinking of rejoining as of late. I learned alot from them.

Simply tell them to remove your number from the list or you will stop supporting the NRA.

Their calling campaign is effective and necessary.

Q: How can I reduce the amount of mail I receive from the NRA?
A: Simply email us at membership@nrahq.org or dial 800-NRA-3888 and request to be placed on the "Do Not Promote" list. This will significantly reduce the amount of mail you receive without affecting important mailings, magazine service, or your membership renewal.

^^^^ I did this and I don't get junk mail anymore :)

Yep, member for several years. I enjoy getting American Rifleman every month. I didn't know how to slow down the tidal wave of mailings, but will definitely go the "Do not promote" route!

I know that some shooters give them a bad rap for some of their decisions, but without their lobbying, we'd probably be looking at another assault weapon ban right now.

I was quite a few years back, but couldn't afford to renew. Side note: I remember something like 10-15 years ago when that fat b!tch Rosie O'Donnell ambushed Tom Selleck on her show for being an NRA spokesman, and she had to make a public apology the next day.

Have been amember for years. They are effective because of a couple of things..
1. They focus entirely to the exclusion of everything else of firearm issues and the 2nd ammendment. This means they don't alienate gun owners with secondary issues.

2. They have a huge membership relative to other special interest groups. They are powerful because they have lots of people behind them (members). Those who whine and bitch about the "powerful gun lobby" are basically jealous of their membership numbers. People want them to protect gun rights or they would not join... If you are a gun owner or just enjoy our few freedoms, join the NRA....
