Okay, I'll get right to it. I'm a complete idiot. I don't know what I was thinking. I had a smoke on wednesday night before leaving for the Holidays. I hadn't smoked much of it, and was pretty stressed about packing, so I decided not to finish my smoke. So then I did something really dumb. I let the cigar go out cut off the end, put it in a plastic bag and shoved it in my humidor to smoke later.:bangbang: Again, I have no idea why I did this. Momentary lapse of sanity.

I come back last night, and my humidor just reeks of burnt cigar. At first I'm not sure why, then it hits me... I'm a fool! I've gone through and checked and all the cigars smell fine and everything checks out, except my HF beads. I have a pound and a half, and they absolutely stink!! Anyone know of anything I can do to fix this? I'm currently airing them out, but I know how hard this smell can be to remove. I fear there might be permanent damage...

It's moments like these that I remember I'm still a n00b.

Thanks!

Oh, and I have a wine cooler as my humi with my boxes inside. I cleaned out the inside, so theres no smell there. At this point, the only thing that smells is the beads.

Jeff (hangs head in shame) :help:

Spray your beads with febreze. :rolling:

Think your best bet is to just let them air out for a day or two and see. Let us know how it works out!

yeah that's a fairly noobish move.

Just let it air out a bit maybe swap the air out at least once a day.

Thanks for the laugh LOL. Obviously, you know now that once a cigar is lit, it doesn't need to be humidified. I would throw some baking soda in there.

Try drying out the beads, then slowly completely soak them, then dry again... see if the smell gets better... If id does, do it a few more times

I would try that .

On a negative note I had a small humidor I put flavored cigars in. When I started running out of room I removed the cigars and tried for 6 months to get rid of the cherry smell. It never went away. I kept it open in front of my heat air duck, I put it outside, I put baking soda in it, I continually wiped it out with distilled water, and last I sanded it. It seemed impossible to get rid of.

Good luck with your situation hopefully you have better luck.

Alright, thanks for all the help. I ordered a stick of activated charcoal. Overnighted that mess so I can solve this problem quickly. Anyone have any experience with the activated charcoal? From what I have been reading it works a lot better than baking soda.

When I first started smoking I smelled up my entire car with a partially smoked cigar. I had to cut a nice cigar short and thought.....well I will just save with puppy for later. left my car sitting over the weekend and when I came back....OMG.... it smelled like an ashtray for about a week.

Activated charcoal works good but still may not solve the problem. I would just order a 1lb for 30+ shipping and be done with it. Or since your ordering anyways go to the shililah beads.

Best advice I could give is to buy new ones and go for the Shilala Beads beads.
Sure, they're expensive, buy they're the best. I ordered 2lb for my wineador and couldn't be happier!
