Don't make assumptions just because I now live in the city...I grew up in rural country and grew up in and around plenty of rodeo...
B.S. If you spent any fair amount of time around rodeo you would not have made such an asinine comment. You could not begin to have spent as much time around rodeo as I have. I have spent so much time around it I hope I never see one again. But I still won't let some one spread propaganda about it. You arguing with me about rodeo is kind of like you telling a doctor you know more about a surgery than he does.
Does a flank strap cause permanent injury to an animal? Of course not, but are you telling me that the animal enjoys the experience?
A flank strap for a horse is made of leather covered in fleece for the horses comfort. They are pulled snug to intensify the horse's action. We breed horse that like to buck to other horse that like to buck to get good buckers. These horses are very valuable and get the best care possible. They work very little and spend most of their life in huge pastures on stock contractor ranches. These horse will buck without a flank strap, but the flank strap insures good action by the horse at every rodeo. These horses love to buck. If they don't like to buck they are not a good rodeo horse and they are sold off.
Calf roping...Does it injure the animal? No, but I'm sure the calf loves that experience as well.
I have owned cattle most of my life. I have roped thousands of calves to brand and doctor. They are very hearty animals. Rodeo is kinder then ranches are to calves. They have a rule that a calf can only be used in 10 rodeos so as not to stress the animal. Roping them by the neck does not hurt them as they have very strong neck muscles. They get up and run off just fine.
I've personally witnessed some fairly docile animals go "ape shit" when you cinch up a flank strap around their abdomen...I wonder why?
Put a belt on your dog, not tight just on him. He will run around and try to get it off. Does it hurt him? No BTW "docile" is hardly a word use to describe bucking stock.
Let me do the same to you and see if you enjoy it. Go ahead and give me that "It doesn't hurt the animal" line all day long..
No offense but you sound like an emotional little girl
.How the hell do you know, did the animal tell you?
Because you build relationships with your animals. You start to learn that animals have personality. Roping steers I have owned for practice tell you when they are sick. So you doctor them and don't rope them. If you do you might end up with a dead animal. How do you know when a horse has colic. It is not something some idiot sitting in the stands would know, but I guarantee the owner of that horse knows the animal is not feeling well. I have owned bulls, cows, calves. horse and dogs. Their body languages tells us a lot. But you would have had to own these animals to now that. Maybe you have had a dog? You get to know your horses and cows just like you know your dog.
.Generally, animals tend to get pissed off when you do something they don't like, because it's the only means of communication they have...they can't say "Can you please stop that...it hurts", so instead they get pissed off and try to hurt you back.
Wrong mister expert. I just explained it too you. But you keep reading your PETA brochures
So is it only torture if you cause injury? Forcing/provoking an animal to do something that it doesn't want to do doesn't apply right?
Well besides the fact that most rodeo bulls and broncs love what they do I am a believer in "Animal Welfare" not "Animal Rights". I would not hurt an animal and I would stop animal cruelty if I saw it. But we can use animals for our needs as long as we are responsible and humane owners. We are just higher on the food chain and I can tell you that rodeo animals are treated 10x better than any other livestock out there.
I'm not saying we should ban rodeo and I am by no means a PETA freak so don't try and lump me in with those dipshits, but don't try and feed me that crap about it not hurting the animal, because that's what it is...crap.
1st if rodeo was cruel animal torture why wouldn't you want to ban it? I would. If I thought it was cruel I want it stopped. But I love those bucking horse and those bulls and I know they have a great life. If they didn't I would not be a part of it.
I can see I am going to have to through some stats for you.
Below was a survey done to see how many rodeo animals were injured. This survey includes the bucking bulls, broncs, roping calves, steers, and all animals used in the events. This is the largest survey of rodeo animals done, from one 1999 rodeo and fifty-six 2000 rodeos. As with the last survey done, the injury rate was very low- indicating that rodeo animals are well cared for and the PRCA's welfare rules have been effective. Out of 17,743 animals, only 38 showed injuries ( which is .00052 percent). Although often looked upon as a 'rough' sport, you can see that it is actually very well regulated. Especially compare these figures to horse racing, often looked upon as more refined, where an estimated 1/3 of horses are injured.
Statistics
TOTAL ANIMAL EXPOSURES: 71,743
NUMBER OF RODEO PERFORMANCES: 187
NUMBER OF RODEOS: 57
NUMBER OF INJURIES: 38
PERCENTAGE OF INJURY: .00052
Since this survey was done the rules and requirements of the PRCA have even become more strict so I am sure if this study was redone we would even seen better results.
I love animals and I will not stand for animal cruelty, but rodeo has lower injury rate than horse racing or even English hunter jumper. So get your facts straight and don't believe that shit you have been fed.
BTW Did I mention I was an Equine Science major in College? I have followed and observed the wild mustangs (Feral Horses) in California, Nevada and Utah studying their behavior with some of the BLMs leading biologists for weeks at a time. You might say I am a bit of an expect on body language of horses.
Who needs a halter? Not me. LOL This was taken just before I started torturing him.
You think you might be arguing with the wrong person on this subject? Do we need a poll?
