Has anyone had Construction Problems with the T52 Flying Pigs?

I bought a box, and 7out of ten of them had either a cracked foot, or the head was starting to come unraveled.

The problem is I bought them several weeks ago at a B & M that is 2 hours away. When I first opened the box and saw the damage I was just going to deal with the damage and still smoke them. Now, the more I think about it I don't want seven damaged sticks. The problem is Im not going to be able to drive back to the B&M.

What would you guys do?

I attached three pictures of the worst cases.

Wes, while these are delicate sticks, I have never seen damaged pigs, and I split and packaged four boxes. That said, have you tried smoking a damaged one? If it took something away from the smoking experience, I would do something about it. If it's just a question of aesthetics, given the proximity, or lack thereof, I would let it slide.

That said, I don't see how it can hurt to get the owner's email and send the pics and see what they say?

Good luck, brother!

When you clip the head doesn't it remove most of the damage? When you light the foot it will burn through the cracked foot usually.
While I might agree with you Vegan in theory, it's another thing if they're my cigars and I'm staring at them in the humidor.

Contact the store or the DE and see what they say first. Even if they won't do anything, the cigars are still smokeable as James said.

Well, to be fair, these are not construction problems, but issues that happened during shipping, most likely...

Call the store and ask them as has been said, and see what they say...

I would generally agree with Vegan when weighing in on an issue like this but if you are really concerned then I would contact your B&M like Brooks suggested. Worst case scenario is the B&M says they can't do anything about it and you may have to get some Pectin as Dan suggested.

I hope everything works out for you

These are anything but 'delicate' sticks. T52's are renown for their very thick wrappers (the 'stalk cut' process used to produce them is worth reading about).

This damage is due to poor handling, storage, and/or shipping.

Any reputable shop owner should be more than willing to make the situation right for you, especially in this economy.

Best of luck! These are awesome sticks and worth the time to spend getting one in decent shape :)

Haven't had any of the pigs, but every T52 toro and robo I've smoked has had some of the head unravel after clipping, similar to what your pigs look like. Having said that, they smoked just fine after I tore off the strip that was hanging from the head....

I have a review almost ready to go on a T52 Robusto....Here's my intro...

The T52 uses what is called a ‘stalk cut’ leaf for the Habano seed Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper. Rather than harvesting leaves little by little from the tobacco plant, the entire plant is cut at the base and cured. As the entire stalk hangs in the curing barn the tobacco retains its natural sap, oils, sugars, and other nutrients. This results in an incredibly rich, thick, oily and sweet wrapper leaf.

Hope to post the entire review in the next day or so!

Clint,

I would say sorry that I missed this post, but I have to say that I have been way from the boards for the last 75 days or o due to cir safari and end of year stuff.

The issue with the box of T52 you purchased look like the hit the floor somewhere between Nica and your hands.

Please don't bother with the retailer on this one, as it is Christmas time and he probably busy. Please count up the ones that were damaged and I will get you the replacements immediately. Best if I can get it out today, o please let me know.

Be well and please don't be angry at the retailer. I will work it out with you immediately.

Awesome.

My two boxes were fine, just for the record.

Wow, talk about customer service! I don't think it can get any better than that, I've heard fantastic things about DE in that respect and that is just an exceptional example.
