whats more important to you? getting a warranty, or getting a good product at a good price with a lesser warranty.

for example, you can buy a certain brand name cigar cutter for $50. seems people have some trouble with them, but you can return it for a replacement.

or, would you rather have same quality cutter (maybe a little better), but pay half the price? warranty is not quite as good. costs $9 to get it replaced.

so, you can buy the cutter for $25, and get it relaced 3 times for what the other brand costs.

whats your opinion?

Here's the way I see it, Ted. Guy puts a fancy guarantee on a box 'cause he wants you to feel all warm and toasty inside. Ya figure you put that little box under your pillow at night, the Guarantee Fairy might come by and leave a quarter, am I right? The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy; well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser, and your daughter's knocked up. I seen it a hundred times. Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of shit. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product from me.

my opinion is, if the product is good, it really shouldn't need a warranty. i prefer the quality up front. i wouldn't buy a product just because it has a good warranty.

this and I'm with Bob, quality up front if I had the choice between the 2. Hopefully I wouldn't have to send something back 3times.

With the others. Personally, I look at warranties for much higher priced items, not so much for this type of item. Obviously that kind of warranty service is nice, but assuming we are looking at apples to apples, I'm going to go with the better quality product for the lesser cost.

Well I have to admit the Xikar warranty was one of the reasons I went ahead and bought one. I had read of problems with them online but the users always got an on the spot replacement at a Xikar dealer. I didn't, however pay anywhere near list for the 1 I bought. I bout another brand ligher to keep in the car that doesn't have as good a warranty but it lists for 50 dollars and I got it for 20.

In the end though, I'd buy a cheaper product with no or a limited warrarnty but a good reputation for quality over a more expensive one with a questionable quality rep with a warranty.

To me, why can't I have both. That's why I have a Palio Cutter. Lifetime warranty, works everytime perfectly and was not crazy prized. I believe you get what you pay for.! And I have never used the warranty, as my cutter has never broken.

That's how I feel. I want a quality product with a quality warranty. I want to know that it has a reputation for not failing, but I also won't buy something cheap just because it allegedly won't break. Everything breaks, I want the company to stand behind it. If I have to pay $50 for it, so be it.

I'm often quoted saying (in regards to all my tools) "I'd rather buy it right once, than buy it cheap 3 times."

Me too. I much prefer to spend the extra $$ now to avoid buying again down the road. I guess it all comes down to how much value you put on your own time and satisfaction. I figure the time and frustration of replacing a faulty product is worth way more than the $25 I'd save initially. Then you factor in the lesser warranty and you end up with little to no savings after a few replacements and a lot of headaches. Seems like a no-brainer to me. Go with the better product/ better warranty.

From my experience, if a product truly was just as good, maybe even better, it would be selling for half the price. It may work fine for a while- until it doesn't.

Absolutely agree with this. My STDupont has worked for over 5 years without fail other than having to air blow it once. So basically it's cost me $2/mo for a 100% reliable lighter.

I've heard guys say 40.00 is alot for a cutter.
I've never understood this (lighters and humidors, too) as most here buy thousands of dollars in cigars every year. :scratchhe

If the product is so damm good...why not give it a good warrenty? What is the worry?
here is my point. you can buy a no name lighter for $5, or you can buy that same lighter with a brand name stamped on it for $20. No guarantee with the no name lighter, lifetime warranty with the name brand. still the same lighter. which do you want?

I agree with Bill. I don't mind paying for quality but no matter what you do there comes a time when bad one slips through. It is for that reason I want a warranty. Lighters; never figured it mattered. I found some work and some don't. I have a $5.00 lighter that is going on 8 years. never fail. I also have a colbri I spent $100 and it is still going after 5 years. No warranty on either.
