Has anyone had a good Monte #2 from a recent box (09,10) ? I've had some good Monte Petit Edmundos and some great Monte #4 but I have been disapointed with the two #2 that I have had so far. I hear great things about them but I'm hesitant to invest in any given my past experience.

You need to try some with a little more age........ these aren't necessarily the sticks that people will say need 10-15 to come into their own... but definitely more than ONE year, for sure!

2007 and 2008 are actually smoking pretty well right now (2008 are going to be phenomenal in just one or two more years, IMHO).

Throughout the years, these have been very inconsistent, but AMAZING when they're on...

Cheers!
I hear you. My concern is that construction seems to be somewhat poor in both of the ones i've had. I'm hoping that somebody has had a decent one that would be worth aging since I can't find any from before 09 :sadpace:

I just want to smoke a couple of real Monte 2's and form my own opinion.

Come April, when a certain someone returns from Afghanistan with Care Packages, I will, I will!

Don't worry. After 2 years you will be in love. A standard for good smokes (even with rough looking wrappers).

09 has been good for me. They are probably one of the more inconsistent cigars due to quantity produced in multiple factories.

I bought 10 singles from the above box code. WOW!! Exactly how they should be! Still have half a dozen left. :cbig:

They are smoking no worse than the young 08s, which are now smoking great.

I will say that this is one cigar that you def. shouldn't judge based on one smoke, not that anyone should ever do that. But, the #2 seems particularly prone to having a usual bad one in the box.

I have not had a good monte #2, but the sublimes, Edmundos and petits have been VERY good. This is an opinion from limited experience. While my experience my be limited, I think I know what smokes well and the Sublimes and Petits are have been excellent.

Everyone must get lost in the heavenly pleasures of a Montecristo 2 before they die.
Do you have another you can try? What was the box code for the one you smoked, do you know?

I'm trying brother....I am trying. I guess I'm just wary of putting out all the cash for a box without getting all the info. The two that I've had were from 06 & 09 but I have no idea what box codes.

Box codes don't mean anything........IMO
As leary as you are to pull the trigger, you are going to be disappointed with whatever you get. There is no science involved in buying and smoking cigars, just pleasure......just get a box, if you don't like them I will buy the rest.

Hmmm... Well then could someone recommend a box code or are you saying they are inconsistent even from the same place?

Once upon a time the box code would tell you which factory the cigars were rolled along with the month and year boxed. Several years ago they changed how that works, far as I know no one has figured that out the factory codes anymore. When you found a code you liked you could ask vendors for that code (or the factory and close month) to get what you hoped was the same as the ones you liked. Now you only have the month and year to go by. The Monte #2 over the years has been very inconsistent. When they are on, many say these are the best cigars out there. Hope that answers your questions.
