Please explain this to me. I see if you live in a part of the US that is warm(Florida, SoCal, Arizona) but why do people leave their house in the middle of winter when it's below 40 degrees with thier shorts and sandles or flip flops on?

Is this a new fad?

Are you trying to display how tough you are?

Are you trying to get a tan? Or keep your tan?

Do you think wearing shorts in the heart if winter will somehow bring out some warmth?

Do pants just not feel comfortable?

Can you not afford a pair of pants?

Do you think your legs are sexy and need to show them off year round?

No offence if you are one of these people? And it dosen't really bother me. But I just understand why anyone would want to wear shorts is sub 40 degree temperatures. Hopefully I'll get a have a better understanding soon.

I am one of these people minus the sandals in the winter. My legs just don't really get cold. Right now it's been around 40 degrees here and yesterday I was out with shorts and a sweatshirt, and was actually a bit warm. I've only worn pants golfing once this winter (I played all week BTW) and it was 30 degrees. After about 6 holes I had wished I would have worn shorts. Not sure how to explain it other than I am someone that is always warm. Good luck in your search...

IMO, the guys I see doing that want to display how tough they are. It's funny to watch them stand there desperately trying to mask their discomfort, claiming "it's not that bad!"

I wear shorts as long as I can, but once the thermometer drops below 60 it's just not going to happen. Most of the people I see not dressing appropriately for the weather are snot nosed kids and I think to myself, "I can't believe your parents let you out of the house without pants and a coat." When I see adults doing it I have to think, "There's some one who evolutionarily wasn't meant to reproduce."

Don't like cold weather- unless it snows. Then I'll go outside. One advantage of being retired is I don't HAVE to go anywhere. But I'll wear flip flops if it's over 50 just because I don't like wearing shoes! No shorts until 70+ temps.

I do it all the time, not because I want to show how tough I am but because I've experienced -80 degrees and lived in Saskatoon, SK for a few winter months. I'm impervious to anything NY can throw at me.

Different strokes for different folks.

When I went to college in Utah, I wore shorts once the mercury hit 30f. However, I always wore certain pieces of clothing that retained my body heat. Gore-Tex hiking boots with wool blend socks. gloves or my hands in my pockets. An insulated drop-waist jacket, and some type of head gear. If the appropriate areas are protected, a mere 12-16 inches of exposed skin isn't going to do much.

If I'm moving there is not an issue. Did I wear shorts to late season football games in Utah...hell know I would have froze my a$$ off. I went to the grocery store at 8:00 AM this morning. It was 36 degrees. I rolled out in slippers (wearing wool socks), gym shorts, a t-shirt, a hoodie sweatshirt, and my BOTL hat. Wasn't an issue, an in and out trip.

Hell, it was 55* here yesterday! I had to take advantage of the weather and remember What wearing shorts felt like!

Today, it's 12*. I currently have pants on.

Wearing a uniform for 22 years, any time I get to NOT wear long sleeves and pants is a happy day!

Ha..Ha...nice thread! Personally when I take a quick blast I wear shorts, after running for a bit I tend to get hot. I see my mailman in shorts all year round? Some of us have a higher tolerance than others, than there is the cool factor or conversation piece? What ever the case may be, bottom line who cares what other people think. I wear what ever I want! 2011 = new attitude " Im gonna live my life"

Some guys aren't affected much by the cold. I know a guy who's that way. He'll even wear tank tops and sleep with the window cracked slightly open. But he doesn't fare well in warm weather at all.

If it breaks 45 with sun and no wind then I make a point of hitting the front deck with a cigar in a tshirt and shorts... Remember, I'm Canadian.
