Indeed, there are whack-jobs of all persuasions, beliefs, colors, etc. One of the few universal truths about humanity.

I didn't think it was possible, but it seems the A-Holes at Westboro church have reached a new low-- even for them. They announced they intend to picket at the funeral of the 9 year old girl who was killed in this shooting. They claim God sent this shooter to punish them for idolotry. Man, I want to do some very evil, disgusting things to those bastards.

Trust me, I know. When I heard this idiot on the radio the other day some very evil thoughts crossed my mind.

Arizona is blocking the demonstrations with legislation: Link.

I know the freedom of speech issues on this may be tough, but I really do hope that laws like this stand the SCOTUS test.

sad thing is, they are just a family of lawyers. they make their living on suing people who don't allow them to protest! and lawyers sometimes wonder why they get a bad rep.
as far as free speech, they are free to say what they want. just from 300 feet away. then if the media would quit covering them, they'd dry up and blow away.

I saw this too, and doubt the legislation will do much to stop them, but I also hear that a ton of bikers are going to show up ans create a wall to baricade the church from getting close to the funeral.

The blame falls squarely on the shoulders of the one who pulled the trigger and to say that others had a hand in this is pretty ignorant. Personal accountability implies personal responsibility and there isn't enough of this going on. Remember the "Twinkie Defense" when Moscone was shot and killed in SF...while I am in favor of good citizens being able to keep and bear arms doesn't mean that everybody should be carrying loaded guns around town like the Wild West. I will keep guns in my house for personal protection...I will shoot anybody trying to break into my house and I will shoot anybody who would try and hurt a member of my family.

The problem we face as a society is that we live in a 'Fallen World' where there are mental defectos who run around freely. The Law cannot protect it's own citizens until a perpetrator takes action against them first,,,then the Law steps in. Yes, there are writs of protection that only go so far as to keep people away from each other in terms of feet/yards but if a person really wants to harm another a protection order means nothing.

Innocent people were killed and that saddens me because we do not have a system in place to keep crazy people from doing crazy things...a 3 day psychiatric hold in a facility is not the answer as on the 4th day they are out again doing crazy things. There is an answer to this but most people do not want to do it or are unwilling to do it...it goes back to training in a family environment and producing normal and stable human beings...miss this step and we get to deal with ugly things like we see today in the news.

I guess the Westboro Church decided that receiving a deserved beat-down by a pissed-off mob was not exactly a great idea:

We are still riding out just in case all the yahoos didn't get the message! I have rode with the patriot guard for years and think it is just insane to protest ANY funeral. Show a little respect for a fellow human being. Let the family grieve in peace.

There were at least a hundred bikes out there today. Very large crowd from the community and thankfully no demonstrators.
