Battle Royale: H. Upmann Mag 46 vs. PSD4

Trying to make a tough decision here.....and curious what some thoughts would be.

I'm eye balling tubos in both vitolas.

The PSD4's tubos would be July 09, and the Upmann 46's are June 08.


What are some thoughts??

I'm sure there will be plenty of votes for "get both"....but if you could only get ONE, all things considered...age, consistency, value (price is almost identical btw)....whaddaya choose, and why??



I love the PSD4's, yet haven't ever had a Mag 46...although I know, they too, are loved by many.

I've only had like 5 PSD4s, all 2-years or less. Only one of them was excellent. I'm sure they get better with age. The one SP2 I had was loads better, though.

The only Mag 46 I had was from '08 and I liked it more than the PSD4 ... very different cigar, of course. Lots of coffee and some spice, and fuller in body than I was expecting which was a pleasant surprise. That was my first good Upmann and will have me trying more.

It surprises me cause the PSD4 is one of my go to cc's; but the Mag 46's. The last couple I had were great!

Both are good cigars. But I enjoy the PSD4 profile much more than the Mag 46's.

I've had hit and miss with both, but if I had to choose, it would be the PSD4.

Over both I would go Mag48. Partagas spice upfront Upmann nutty and sweetness middle back. Just the best of both.

PSD4 is going to be a tough cigar to beat. It's by far my favorite robusto and regardless of my mood, I find myself grabbing one more often than any other smoke I have.

Granted, I only have a handful, though...

If not go for the 46s. You already have the Psp2 that will give you the partagas flavor.

That's a tough call for me as both are a good go-to CC, I prefer the size of the 46 a little more but they are both great cigars. If I had to choose, I'd probably go with the 46.

Well, I am somewhat of a Partagas slut and would normally advise the PSD4, but, those '08 Mag 46 A/Ts are stellar, IMHO. The Upmann line is one of my favorite marcas. In fact, all of the '08 Mag 46s, A/T or otherwise have been quite excellent.
