http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showthread.php?t=49324Wow... what a response!
Look I have my own opinions as to why LP has failed to received what I believe to be an appropriate score (92-95) and it has nothing to do with advertising. And there is no benefit in sharing them.
I also don't agree with the 1st inch only practice knowing that many cigars require time to develop and blossom.
However, their scores are their scores and nothing I or anyone says will change them. Lucky for us Drew Estate's success has never depended on any magazine or any ratings - people smoke our cigars and decide for themselves.
Also I don't take issue with someone not liking the Dirty Rat. It isn't for everyone, none of the cigars we make are - Kuba Kuba guys love 'em, but those that don't, don't. It is the way it is. I always tell people that "if you make a cigar everyone will like, you are ultimately making a cigar no one will love..."
My only nitpick with their Dirty Rat review was that they rated it as "Medium" in body. That baffles the hell out of me!
BR,
Steve
Still Prez, Drew Estate
Bout sums it up.
 Amen to that my brother! :clap:Steve is 100% correct and I cannot add to that but, I wish CA would do away with their ratings and just write about cigars. How many of us have smoked cigars that started well but half way through turned into the smoking experience from Hell?
Besides, I don't care who says it, the overall complexity of a stick just does not develop in one inch.
+1WHY OH WHY....Do people read a magazine that supports itself from
ad-vertizing revenue when they have forums such as BOTL ect. that I find are much more relevent when it comes to reality concerning smoking cigars?:chat:
Yes, he is. And you're right, he is a good dude.I don't know if the author (Thor) is a member here, but I've seen him around the internet. Good guy.
I agree! But you can drink riesling with a porterhouse (or heavy sausages) and in a weird way they go together. The germans are pretty infamous for pairing their rieslings with heavy meat dishes. The super high acidity and dryness of rieslings cut through heavy, fatty meats.I approach cigars like I approach wine; I try and pair them both with food.....and time of day is another variable. You certainly wouldn't drink a Pinot Grigio with a porterhouse, and you wouldn't smoke a full body Habano for breakfast!
Very akin to Cojonu 03 in structure IMO, more body than flavor, whereas the 06 is more flavor than body. With the 03 (maybe 09 for some people as well), you feel it more in your gut. The 06, it's more in your mouth.Ive had one rat and at the time it wasnt my cup o tea.
(Had it for breakfast - that was a mistake).
I was warned it was strong but damn.
I agree with MK05 that it had too much strength for me.
Next one I have will be after a steak dinnner, hopefully it will give it a fairer shot than my 1st impression.
MMM, Austrian Riesling's......petrol and mineral goodness!!!I agree! But a heavy cigar with morning coffee is not the way you want to loose your omelet in the morning!
That "too much body" is the very reason I love it and was finally able to acquire a box of them. :cbig:I remember smoking a rat last month. *FOR ME* it was too much body and not enough flavor. I had to put it down every 3rd and take a break.
