It's been a LONG time since I've smoked either, especially the Dip2. Monte #2 sticks out in my mind as one of my favs. But I remember enjoying the Dip2 a lot too, but don't really remember exactly how it compares to the Monte #2 because I only smoked it once about 10 years ago.

I'd love to hear opinions on how these two compare in flavor profile and which you prefer. Thanks!

Had a couple Dips and wasn't a fan, but I wanted to like them. Mine may have been duds... The Monte 2 is good from what I remember, but the Dips seem to be more favorable amongst most BOTLS. They are very similar in flavor from what I remember, with the Dip being slightly more nuanced/refined.

Diplomatico, hands down!
Never enjoyed the plugged, inconsistent, overrated Monty
Is your preference based on the inconsistency or the flavor profile? From what I've read, the Dip is a lighter in flavor profile. Is that your experience?

I've yet to have a good Montecristo #2. With that said I have never had a Dip #2 but have been looking to try them! Won't be buying anymore Montecristo #2's.

Inconsistent in terms of construction/draw/plugs, etc.

Diplo's have a much lighter profile, and (IMHO) are a bit more complex.
I have a few left form an '98 box that are just awesome right now.

Love Diplomaticos!

Hey Clint,
I'm up in Fresno and lived many years in the SFV near Sherman Oaks. Since those Dips are getting old, I'll come down to help you smoke those up so you can get some "fresh" ones!

Funny, when I did a search for reviews online for Dips, I saw a lot of not-so-good reviews on them, but pretty consistently good ones for Montys. Seems opposite here!

wow, well if you asked this question on a cc forum Monte 2 hand down every time! Diplo 2 is not in the sam leauge in ANY way, and I smoke alot of monte 2. I have nly smoked 2 boxes of the Diplos 2.

Monte 2 is truly an amazing cigar that shows you that the regular production cigar is often better than most RE. As mentioned I have only smoked 2 boxes of the Diplo but alot of the monte 2.

Just to be clear, your opinion is that you like and put Monte 2's in a much higher league than Dip2's?

As always, to each his own.

Montecristos are great cigars, but highly overrated and overpriced, IMHO.

The problem is, the brand Montecristo is a household word, even in houses where no cigars are smoked...Meaning that it is so well recognized, that it tends to get overrated and it's popularity allows for high pricing.

Add in the inconsistency in construction (possibly based on quality control not keeping up with the high demand?) and you have a brand that has suffered since the CC boom in the early 90's. (Back then, these were MUCH better smokes...No comparison to today's quality)

Again, just my opinion :)
