MLB announced today that Manny Ramirez is retiring. Apparently he was notified by their banned substance committe of some issue and instead of dealing with it he's retiring. Peace out Manny.

Interesting. . .I always seem to hear the phrase that steroids or {insert favorite drug here} do not help you hit a baseball. But, it sure seems funny that the production for all of these guys drops like a stone once they get caught. . .:rolling:

That's too bad. Like him or not, when healthy, one helluva player. His persona added to the game as well.

He'll be missed.

It is true...there is NO steroid that improves hand-eye coordination. With that being said, what steroids do help with is keeping your strengh and endurance up during the long season, thus being more productive. At the half way point where most guys are getting run down and maybe playing through injuries, steroid users are still feeling strong and healthy.

Love Manny or hate him, I did like what he did for baseball. He was a character that added personality to an otherwise boring game. Baseball is my favorite sport and I played through college and I will be the first to admit its a boring sport.

Baseball didn't need this guy. He was an amazing hitter for sure. But he was complete a-hole who as a person contributed nothing to the game. Good riddance.

Agreed....And take away the "amazing hitter" because of steroids, and you just have an a-hole who cheated.

Another disgrace to baseball has taken the cowardly approach to avoiding what Bonds is currently going through.

...buh-bye

With all due respect, that's a pile of horse crap.

Take a look at Bonds when he was a rookie, compared to post steroids.

Steroids add muscular mass, which powers the ball out of the park.

Yes, you need hand eye coordination, and skills developed by your hitting coach...Agreed. But teach that to a thin, weak batter, and he'll only get base hits....Add the steroids, and he'll be dinging cars in the parking lot.

LOL...oh, I agree that steroids add strength that contribute to more home runs. But looking at Barry, he was still capable of hitting it out of the park pre-steroids. Take a guy like Barry who was capable of hitting home runs and then add roids and yes, you will get more home runs out of balls that shouldn't leave the park.

Where I think we will have to agree to disagree is your final statement. I played college baseball with guys who were amazing hitters, jumped on the sauce and their power numbers only slightly improved. When it comes to hitting home runs you either have it or you dont. And if you have it, adding steroids will make you have it even more so.

...Because of the steroids, he was!

Pitchers are equal piles of crap for steriod use. Anyone in any sport who cheats, is a freakin' cheater....Period.

No matter how much, no matter how it's done, cheating is cheating and it's a disgrace to their profession.

But getting back to Manny, TECHINACALLY Manny never tested positive for steroids last year. He got popped for hCG. Which is NOT a steroid. We aren't sure what the issue is this time.

Sidenote...I do believe he was juicing but what I believe and what we KNOW are two different things.

Can we agree to the obvious fact that he cheated? If so, then he's a piece of crap that deserves no place in the hall of fame, nor any place in the heart of a true baseball fan who has any respect for the game.

Yes, we can agree that he cheated. But at the end of the day its just a game and they're all a bunch of over paid whiners so I could really care less if he goes to the Hall or not. Life still goes on and I will still watch the Cubs lose for the rest of my life.

So it's okay to cheat, cause it's just a game.

Is it okay to cheat at work? On your spouse? Where do you draw the covenient line?

Slow down, Clint. You can't even remotely compare cheating in a game to cheating on your spouse. The definition of "cheating" in those examples are completely different. One is doing something against the rules in order to gain an advantage and the other is having a relationship with someone other than the person you're committed to. Apples and oranges.

And you know why I don't care about Bonds, Manny, A Rod, Big Mac or any of those guys cheating? Because at the end of the day I have much more important things to worry about. I watch sports for entertainment. Why get all fired up over something that has NO effect on me, my family or my finances? Yes, if I found out someone was cheating at work then I'd be upset because that DIRECTLY affects me. But what these guys shoot into their asses doesn't have any direct effect. Whether Bonds hits 80 home runs or 12 home runs it doesn't change my day at all.

With that being said I respect your opinions and I really do agree with a lot of what you say. I just don't think its something to get too heated about.

Not at all attacking you personally...I am not drawing comparisons or implications to YOU, I am trying to point out that these professional athletes have tons of kids who admire them and idolize them. When they cheat, it's providing an example to kids that it's okay to do so. If Barry Bonds can cheat at baseball, why can't a kid cheat in school?

I know you weren't bro, and trust me, I dont take anything on the boards personally. I do see the point you're trying to make, please don't think I don't. In my own opinion our kids shouldn't be looking up to ANY of these guys, clean or not. And not just athletes but actors, musicians, or politicians. If we are debating whether these guys are setting good examples for our kids then I am in 100% agreement with you.

Should you cheat in sports? No. Should you cheat on your spouse? No. Should you cheat in school? No. Should you cheat on your taxes? Only if you're certain you wont get audited. :peace:
