will someone relay the details - I don't have a FB page or profile... does this have any similarity to the S&B (I guess not the latest ones at the least?)?

What is the "concept behind the cigar"?

It seems fallout from the WMD's are causing a zombie uprising. The blend isnt based on S & B, just the idea behind the cigar.

Wouldn't you like to know?
I think LE's can be great. It was originally blends like Noella Reservas that lead to cigars like 7th reserva, Petite reserva, and PCR's. If done properly can be a great test bed for new blends. Bad side is the chase that sucks. If more people would relax on the chase it could go back more to a test bed. I really like how EPC has done their higher volume LE that ended up being the Basis for the Elencios (sp?). Beer does a lot of LE stuff and I don't chase down all of it, but if it seems to suit my tastes I will try and grab some. If it is good I just try and appreciate that I was lucky enough to try it. When it is gone or if I miss it oh well another great one will be right around the corner.

I agree with Aaron. Good way to try out if a cigar would work out in the marketplace. Hopefully, patience will pay off with the cigar becoming regular production.

I don't mind the LE sticks, and the concept behind "boutique" cigars; small run cigars seem to be all the rage with Viaje, Tatuaje, Illusione, EP, 7-20-4 etc. for the simple fact that these are great tasting cigars. What bothers me (albeit a little) is the shadow games and cloak and dagger associated with every release. Just be straight up and forthright about the release. I might try and order a box of these, as I enjoy most of what Viaje is producing. When the MOAB's came out, I ordered a fiver the same day and I moved on with my life. Getting caught up in all this pointless banter and finger pointing is juvenile and arbitrary......if you're interested, buy them and if not.......go smoke a Gurkha!

IMO, Limited cigars should be just that, cigars that for some reason or another, couldn't be put into regular production but the tobacco/blend is so good you want to share it, or you produce it in a different size just as a change of pace. It seems like some companies are using the LE moniker just to sell cigars. Let me preface by saying, I'm not slamming anyone and I'm not putting anyone on a pedastal.

I look back to Pete's early days when the thermonuclear was floating around and no one really knew who Pete or Pepin was. P let his smokes do the talking. No bands, just a "here is what I have, smoke it and give me your thoughts.." I can still remember the first day when Matt from Drapers handed me a cojonu and just said try this, this is right down your alley. Well he was right. From there, it was really a lot of test piloting which seems to be continuously going on. Different people like different tastes, sizes, shapes so eventually, people will keep what they like and move what they don't.

I've never met Andre as there aren't any Viaje accounts in or near DC but through botl's here, I've met and smoked quite a few of his sticks. I do like some of his LE's and don't like others. The base lines are OK but again, since no one carries his sticks locally, I won't go way out of my way to find em. I don't know of his exact situation with tobacco availability but instead of making everything a LE type smoke, I'd love it if he could come up with a consistant "regular" line that I could pick up when I wanted. That being said, I'm as guilty as the next guy when it comes to the chase lol. I think its in our blood.

Pete, I've met on many occasions and from day 1, I could tell that he was a good guy. Completely down to earth and appreciative of his position in the industry. Everything is planned out now much more than it used to be it seems as he now knows years out, whats in the works.

To me, it looks like Pete starts with the tobacco and Andre starts with an idea. I could be totally wrong here but just how I see it. G1

It could be worse and the manufacturers don't release anything new.
And to think, look how long they have been around.

Just something to think about.

Different smokes for different folks. After all, sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.

FYI burn cigars is selling pre-orders on these now. Only 8 boxes left, though, for out-of-staters.

I agree with this completely, and it's exactly this that has turned me off of chasing LEs. I adamently chased all the Tat LEs in the beginning. I was lucky enough to pick up a jar of the Tat Blacks during my chases. I remember hearing Pete talk about how they were going to be limited because they didn't have the wrapper leaf to keep making them. Then they came out in bundles, then 3 pack robustos, then tubos, and now full time production petite lanceros. I'm sure due to popularity of the blend he made sure to ramp up growth of that wrapper leaf, but it really turned me off that this "limited" cigar kept showing up every 3-6 months.

Now? I buy cigars I know I like, and that never let me down, and I don't chase the HTF stuff anymore. I'll stick pick up some HTF if I stumble accross them, or the reviews are mostly positive, but I don't actively hunt them down. And Pete's brown label is a regular buy for me.

The black labels, we always had enough leaf to use but it's an extra step that I was making the factory do which takes time. Sorting through binder to find wrapper is time consuming.
I didn't want to take up the factories time but we always had the tobacco.

In the case of the Jars. I only had 1000 jars and the left over cigars went into bundles. The robustos, only 5000 3-packs and a few bundles of 25 were made. Now that the factory is bigger, it's easier to make more but it still takes time to separate the wrappers.

Never happen until people stop chasing these things.
Here, here.

But, truth be told, the hype is good for business and bringing new guys into the fold. I remember that when I got introduced to this hobby, it was one on one and then guys started sharing the share. While this works in some circles, this marketing trend, like Groupon and all the eateris that ping you.

It is something about the chase that like Cornrow states, until we stop chasing... or a string of high priced, poor quality sticks are out there, then perhaps.

I just pray that it is not the latter.

The chase is just to claim bragging rights IMHO. I gave up long ago but still think that the regular stuff that I can get at any time is better because I don't worry about smoking them.

Don't even break a sweat when I'm down to my last noella.

There's always more.
