I think they'll stick with 185 as Anderson walks around at 230. Cutting anymore would be really hard.If and when GSP and Silva fight it will be at a "catch weight" and will be a "non-title" fight.
Didnt read it that way. Seems he's indicating that if it goes to a decision, it would favor GSP due to politics so they can have the Silva fight, but I'll let him clarify.By politics I think he means GSP stepping up into a title fight when he shouldn't be considered, not having fought in that weight class before. Possibly some of the same issues I discussed as I think it would be a massacre.
yes was going to say the same thing. Look GSP is a great fighter but silva would kill him at 185 because GSP would lose too much of his speed going up to 185 and vica-versa if silva had to drop down to 170 he'd be so drained from making weight that GSP would destroy him.If and when GSP and Silva fight it will be at a "catch weight" and will be a "non-title" fight.
I don't see this fight ever happened its something all mma fans will talk about as something they want to see and wonder why Dana never delivered it. If this fight does by some miracle take place it will be at MW and this is why:If and when GSP and Silva fight it will be at a "catch weight" and will be a "non-title" fight.
Just read that. Here's one site with it http://www.fightline.com/fl/news/2011/0127/535890/georges-st-pierre/. I hope they give GSP a good year to properly put the weight on. It's too bad they can't get Nick Diaz in for the next title shot, cause I can't stand that guy, and would love to see him get pummeled by GSP.GSP has already stated on record that if he wins this fight, he will relinquish the belt and move up to challenge Silva for the title. It has been confirmed by Dana White even. I will see if I can find the interview somewhere but it is done as long as GSP comes out victorious.
I'm not saying they'd be paid off. At least, you'd hope that wouldn't happen. What I was saying was that in a close fight that geos to a judges decision I think it will go to GSP. Even if Shields slightly edges him. It would have to be pretty decisive for Shields to win if it goes to the cards. If GSP fights Silva everyone involved wins. Judging commissions, promotors, sponsors, fighters....everyone.Regarding the politics, I have to disagree. The judges, and refs come from the sanctioning athletic commission, and are independent of the UFC. Dana has zero control over who refs, and judges, and how they ref or judge.
As a result he has been very vocal in his displeasure over how some these decisions are made. If politics of the judges skew their decision, money is not the factor, unless you want to insinuate that their paid off.
I wish it were that way. If it's too close to call, the Champ should always get the nod IMO, but I have seen to many fights where that doesn't happen. One thing that pisses me off with MMA judging is the reluctance, or flat out refusal to give a 10-10 round. Too many fights where a simple take down somehow wins a round.I'm not saying they'd be paid off. At least, you'd hope that wouldn't happen. You'd have to change the rules to allow this - as it stands now, judges don't have the option under the 10-point 'must' system. One thing that pisses me off with MMA judging is the reluctance, or flat out refusal to give a 10-10 round.
Actually the rule is there. A 10-10 round does meet the criteria of the 10 point must system. UFC 127 Siver v. Sotiropoulous being the last fight to have a judge score a round 10-10 (round 2)You'd have to change the rules to allow this - as it stands now, judges don't have the option under the 10-point 'must' system.
There's some good discussion about it on the ufc boards here:
