The recent I'm sick of Zombies thread and the mention of the impending Zombie Apocalypse had me thinking... What do you think is the best round or rounds to have on hand to defend yourself in the impending Zombie apocalypse?

I'm thinking you need a pistol round and a rifle round at minimum to cover a range of zombie killing situations. What's your thoughts?

Hah!

Not sure I'd use rounds/shells, since, as I'm sure we're all aware, the noise just serves to attract more of 'em. But if the point is pass on tissue damage and be sure to hit 'em in the head, I'm carrying buckshot. Not sure which would be best, but I'd have to start with 0 and test my way to tri-ball. I'll let you know what I find.

.50 Cal is going to get you the biggest destruction at a distance. You are going to need to down as many as possible before close quarter fighting. Other rifle rounds, even hollow points, would do damage to normal tissue but anything short of ripping apart the core won't suffice when it comes to zombies.

Once they get in close you are going to need a shotgun (any gauge will be fine I imagine), preferably short barrel or tactical version so you can manuver quickly. Once your cornered I guess it's up to your .45 cal handgun for direct head shots.

Thoughts?

EDIT: I'm sorry I gave this so much thought. It's almot the end of the day and I want to leave work...

Agreed with the rifle and pistol, but I would definitely want a compact combat shotgun. But, I live by the motto of an axe never runs out of bullets.

And no, no, no. Just getting zombie juice on you doesn't infect you. You have to absorb it into your body through a mucous membrane. So, keep scratches and cuts to a minimum and wear safety glasses. You should be wearing them anyway, when dealing with the aforementioned above weaponry.

Agreed, but I don't plan on letting them get close enough for a shotgun or melee weapons. :gangfire:

The smallest caliber I could get away with and still punch holes in a zombie skull. I'd rock a .22lr if you're talking practicality, though you won't get any style points.

.22 you can carry a lot of the rounds and it has the capacity to take out a brain.

Shotguns have large spray, but dont have the brain destroying capability.
