So I decided to tackle making my own Humi cause I need more space than my simple 25 cigar one will hold.

Due to space constraints I am using a 1.7 cu Mini MiniFridge

I found this at the local dump, perfect condition other than it doesn't refrigerate anything lol

I took out all the useless refrigerator parts so it wouldnt be so heavy

Plugged up all the holes

And Cleaned it out.

-----
Next Ill be painting the outside, I want it to be black.
My SCedar veneer just arrived to line the whole inside
Ill be making shelves out of SCedar as well

Im think im going to be using the HCM beads from Shilala

And I might down the road add some lighting.

------
So
Fridge - Free - Dump
Paint - 5$ - Homedepot
SCedar Veneer - 20$ - Woodcraft
SCedar for Shelves - 17$ - eBay
Beads - 28 - Shilala
Hygro - 18 - Shilala

Pretty good deal!
--------------

Also got my oust fans from ItalianCustom! Cant thank him enough!

UPDATE:
-------------------------
Finally had time to examine the door, as per recommendations I removed the door panel to create more space.

As you can see, underneath is some sort of insulation foam, I am going to cover this with a piece of plastic (hopefully I can find at home depot) 13in x 15in - This isnt going to completely cover the opening so i was going to paint the foam, but what kind of paint should be used?

Ill be painting the outside tomorrow and laying the veneer as well... stay tuned.

Ill update with pics as they come.

After looking at that I think you are right, but when i picked it up all the wires were ripped out and what not so i dont think it would have been salvageable anyhow.

Too bad.

what do you plan on painting it with? It is plastic so I would say krylon fusion, but you are going to have to let it air out quite a while to make sure there is no fumes left.

Since you are covering the entire inside, you should try taking that door panel off (the inside part) and just making it a flat piece of wood maybe... Cool idea but I dont think its going to be as easy as you think. I cant wait to see this progress, good luck!

Hmm I hadnt thought of that... I was going to build a box to fit along that bottom "tray/compartment" on the door to hold cutters and what not... and then keep my beads up in that top part...

Or is it not a good idea to have your humidification source be on the door?

I was gonna use krylon fusion... I thought about the fumes... Im in no hurry, havent even ordered the beads yet.

That would work too. I use something similar for a beer fridge and hate how the door takes up that 4 or 5" of shelf space on the inside. For me, to have the most usable space for cigar storage, that door panel would have to disappear. Of course, if you were planning on using it for accessories and beads its not wasted.

Ill look at it an try and see whats involved in taking the inside panel off, i just dont wanna mess up the seal and have it not be air tight.

You cant get Yuengling in RI either so whenever I drive to VA to visit the Fam I bring some back.

I would think it should be easy to remove the front.
It was, 16 Philips head screws

keep us posted looks like it should come out looking pretty sweet
Thanks man!

Any way to get underneath the edge of the door, so you were on top of the foam but under the door? If so you could try and get a good fit with some thin plastic sheet or maybe stainless and not have to paint the foam.

Cool project though! Good luck
