OK. I sent the email this morning saying thank you and I appreciated him thinking of me. I was almost hoping he emailed back telling me how it's real and everything because it is bothering me not to set him straight. I got a "your welcome" response from him so this thing is put to bed. I hope it doesn't come up again in the future.

ok, I will be "That Guy"....I can see a difference in the bands as far as fuzziness of print and color of band (which may just be the angle/camera) but which one IS the real one and how can you tell? I'm super ignorant to CCs.

The one with the sh*tty wrapper is fake
The one on the right is the bad one. The band is:
The wrong color
the emblem is off center
the white lettering is cheap printing and not raised like the real one
the detail in the Fleur-de-lis is not sharp.
The phone camera does not show everything too well but you can tell in 2 seconds when looking at the band.
ok, I can see that now except the lettering being raised. I woulda still smoked it. May not have been a real cuban but could have still been a decent smoke!
I just looked at a few Monte 2's I have from back in the early 90's and before Monte went with the glossier bands, the bands actually were the flat brown finish. The color looks right in pic 2 to an older band. When you say off center, I'm assuming you mean top to bottom? With the printing the way it was, the fleur and words weren't as sharp as the newer bands (shouldn't be fuzzy but not laser sharp like the newer). Did you smoke it? Try it, you may have an old monte or it may be a dog. If you can tell pretty much immediately and you know you're not going to smoke it all the way, take a razor and split it. See if its full of med fill or "parts". G1

I agree older Monte bands were very plain with no raised print. I can not say that is 100% fake from that photo.
Wait a minute , I have some very old Montes in a humidor. I dont know the exact date on them , I bought them a very long time ago. And YES I'm 100% sure they are real. Purchased in Paris a De galle duty free.

Shit, what a crappy pic. I'll try to get a better one, but as you can see, the color of the band is muted on older Montes and the lettering is not embossed.
