Not sure why I'm starting this thread, but I just wanted to share my experience a couple weeks ago since I know Poopal is a hot topic with a lot of BOTLs. Many people have had bad experiences with Poopal freezing accounts for tobacco related transactions and for other reasons.
A couple weeks ago I was out with friends and one of their friends turned out to be the Public Relations Manager at Poopal. He was a nice guy and after talking to him for awhile, I brought up the tobacco subject, that I thought Poopal is very hypocritical regarding their tobacco policy and what his thoughts were.
I'll start by saying he was very honest and said that he has been pushing executives to be more open and honest in what their intentions and policies are, but they do not approve some of the things he would like to change. He said that he understands my frustrations, but the reason they do not allow any tobacco related transactions is because of all the different state laws regarding tobacco, taxing, shipping restrictions etc. He said they simply cannot afford to get themselves in the middle of all the tobacco laws for liability purposes and that is why they are so strict.
I then said Poopal is hypocritical because major online tobacco companies have Poopal's logo on their website and accept their payment through Poopal. I bitched saying Poopal sells out to the major tobacco retailers, but then doesn't allow private transactions. He said they are not approved by Poopal to do this and that Poopal does not have personnel to monitor websites showing Poopal's logo and payment processing. I personally don't buy that, but I do believe he was telling me the truth as far as he understood it. He was not the type of guy to lie to my face, although he is PR!?! LOL
Anyway, I'm not sure if my opinions of Poopal really changed much, but I at least was glad to hear that the PR Mgr understood they need to be more open/honest about their policies and that he was trying to make changes. He said it was simply a liability issue and I can understand that.
