I have read both threads and thought to myself... Isolated issues, or storage issues. Then tonight I checked mine. Out of a mostly full box of 46's there was 3 with slight mold. Dusted off easy. All cedar has been removed from the remaining.

You sure it wasn't plume. I found similar white dusting on some vintage PG's from '99. Luckily it was at a PG event, and talked with Kevork about it, and he confirmed it as plume, the shop manager did as well, and showed me online what the difference was between mold and plume...usually plume is white and can brush off.

There are parts of that article that are just plain wrong. Mold is most always WHITE and furry not Blue/Green. Blue/Green is however the worse of the 2 types. While alot of that article is correct what most need to know is that 98 percent of cigars will Never Plume and if they do it will take most cigars decades. And part b is that MANY retailers will always tell there customers it's plume do to not being properly educated or for heading off monetary losses. If its white and furry and wipes off easily its MOLD. If it dusty from head to toe and looks like your dress that sat unpolished for 6 months it's plume. If its Blue/Green its Pharm grade penicillin.
Smoking a 06 Don Carlos Anniversario with luckily only oil/tar spots left under the cedar right now!

Anejo wrapper is prone to mold. Remove the cedar, wipe it off, and smoke. This topic has been covered 100's of times over the years and is no big deal as long as its not on the foot. I have cracked into 300 plus Anejo boxes over the years and can count on one hand how often I've seen mold on the foot. In my personal collection I always remove the cedar and put the cigar back into cello for long term aging.

Well I finally got around to taking the cedar off of my 7 Anejo's and only 1 thankfully had mold and it wasnt more than about 20 dots so it cleaned up easy. All are now wrapped back up in cello and back in the humidor. Thanks for the heads up!

I also checked all mine and about 50% of mine had mold. I also checked other cedar wrapped and they did not seem to have any issues. Really interesting. Thanks to.the OP for the heads up.

bump for an important thread. Pulled the cedar & ribbons off every one of my Anejo 50s today. Every single one had mold hidden beneath it! The white furry shit ranged from "a little" to "whoa!" and I could see it invaded the foot in 3 of them. I wiped the mold off with a t-shirt and put them back in the box.

Question: for the 3 w/ tiny mold spots on the foot - are they safe to smoke?

Don't let the funk deter you, brothers. If the head and foot are good, lay it down without a worry. ..Or smoke that bad boy :)

You'll get opinions on both sides, but if you don't want to toss the smoke then just clip the foot like you would the cap. Then you're not smoking mold.

Bump on this. I just got an anejo yesterday from a B&M that had them for less than a week. Pretty moldy guy. I'm glad I knew about removing the cedar and ribbons, or else I would have had a terrible mold problem when I would taken this out next year.

Don't understand why this isn't somehow changed or corrected by the factories putting cedar wraps on cigars?! I know they look really nice with them and all and may help preserve flavor but with soo many occurrences of mold I don't know how this doesn't become a quality control issue?! I have kept all mine on so far but check some of them every once in a while and they are fine but now I'm second guessing myself and thinking about taking them off...do you guys think if your humi is maintained at 65% or below (like mine is) this could prevent it? :dunno:

i guess OT, but do the FFOX with cedar wraps have the same issue? Do you guys recommend taking the cedar/ribbons off?

Just checked the few I have and no issues. Is this a strictly anejo issue or should I check the cedar/ribbons on my opus stash as well?

I remove cedar and ribbons from every cigar that comes with it. It the cigar is meant to be aged in cedar I'll just throw it in one of the cigar boxes in my wineador.

For those of you with mold, what rh are you keeping your sticks at? I'm no expert, but I would think with the lower rh like 63-65%, mold wouldn't be a problem.
