I asked Dion about this when he was in town for the Nosotros event. Bands can be expensive. And the price is somewhat based on the cost of the print run vs. the number of cigars to be banded. A cheap band on a small run could cost as much as a fancy band on a million plus cigar on a per band basis. So there's no real cut or dry answer as it varies on the production run on the cigar.

Why not just ask yourself why it costs more for a steak at a high end restaurant as opposed to Denny's. Same meat but you're really paying for the name of the steakhouse right?

I will pay the extra 10 cents to know exactly what I have.
I agree, 10 cents is worth it to me. I cannot IMAGINE it costing more than that. In the case of Tatuajes the initial designs are mostly finished templates, and the paper/printing/cutting would be a fraction of a penny per band. Labor--sure, it would take a few seconds to put a band on ... I'd guess a capable person could do maybe 10 bands a minute ... but even if it's only a few per minute, you'd be well within that 10 cents per stick.

But what do I know, I change poopy diapers all day.

Dave and I are going to start a cigar band buy back company to help these manufacturers out. It will be a lot like "The Golden Goat" machines you see for aluminum cans, except we are going to call it "The Billy Goat" after Wigwam's tastes buds.

I realize this isn't a cigar band answer but if we are looking at additional cost to what the cigar is. the box has got to be one of the higher expenses that have little effect to how good a cigar is. But I do love a sweet lookin box. hehe

But we are getting the same cigar in the same box for 50 cents per stick more. Or so we have been lead to believe...And the band can't cost more then 15 cents.

I am all about paying more for a great steak in a great environment, with great service.

I would be more than willing to pay extra for a cigar at Casa Fuente, simply because of the location and waitresses.

Just saying...no reason it sohould cost us 50 cents, I'l pay the dime you guys are talking about all day long. When we are tlasking about buying and smoking hundreds of cigars every year, it adds up.

It's not just the band... it costs them to have a person take the time and band them 1 at a time... Time costs money...
see Dave's previous post regarding this exact aspect, [ame="http://www.botl.org/community/forums/showpost.php?p=731625&postcount=18"]BOTL Cigar Forums - Brothers of the Leaf - View Single Post - Bands and "Cost"[/ame]

I saw it, but unless one of the people that are in the cigar business come in here and tell us the actual figures, it's not something we can just throw a number out there...
I do agree that it does not cost them that much extra, but as the end product gets more presentable, nicer looking, better packaging... they end user will be paying more for the product.

You guys know enough to say it is .50 to the consumer in savings, and seem to genuinely believe that. Baccarat must be giving away cigars with thier varnished boxes and die cut multi-color bands! And let's not forget that bit of sugar they put on the tip, that must be 'spensive!

That was something that was brought up to the group in Nicaragua, We were told it would be about a .50c difference in the end per stick... so the group decided that we did not really care for the bands...

360 sticks a hour your a little off. 4320 is more then a whole days production in MF Nica.
Each team does a couple hundred. Banding at 10sec i think is a little much as well.
