Ouch, that is a big step down. I've heard a lot of complaints about the Q. Basically that it is a smartphone for someone who just wants to have a smartphone but doesn't really need it.

A lot of large companies still utilize it due to the large amount of databases that they have built within it. This resulted in Apple allowing third party software for the iphone.

My company still uses lotus notes. I hate It!!!! I cant believe anyone doesnt use Outlook.

I had a Blackberry at my last company. Extremely useful. I thought it kind of sucked as a phone but i heard it worked better with a bluetooth earpiece.

I have both the Pearl and the 8800 and am happy with them. The GPS funtionality on the 8800 is awesome. If the curve has this funtionality, I think it does, it is worth checking out. I think it costs like $10/ month, but it is really cool.

I've got the 8820, I really like it. It's go GPS, and WIFI. You don't have to pay the $10.00 for Telenav GPS, you can use Google maps if you want, although Google doesn't give you speed, altitude and maybe other stuff that Telenav does.

I like it over the Curve for the Wifi capability.

The wife and I both upgraded to iPhones last week and we're havin' a lot of fun with 'em. Showed mine to the boss...he's a gadget guy, too...and he couldn't dial the regional manager's phone number fast enough to make a pitch for getting them.

I haven't really looked at the Blackberries so I'm not too familiar with them. What business functionality do they provide that an iPhone wouldn't?

For those of you with GPS, look at a program called Nav4All. Free GPS navigation until 2010 i think.

Motorola Q: wouldn't touch one with a 10 foot pole. Our company has multiple people with them and they are CONSTANTLY crapping out. Both software wise and Hardware. Piece of Junk phone, truly.

To all those who like the internet experience on a Palm type phone, gotta try the IPhone. You'll never, ever look back. My wife has a Palm 700W (I think?) and I swear I've been on the verge of throwing that thing through/out/into anything nearby time after time. It can't handle half of the stuff on the internet and trying to decipher what it actually does manage to access can be just as bad. The ONLY thing I've ever been happy with was the weather on weather.com when we've been driving and wanted to see how long it would be before we drove out of the rain.

What business functionality do they provide that an iPhone wouldn't?
As I understand it (and I really don't), the IPhone doesn't work with most work email services or some such. About the only thing keeping it back I would imagine. I've also heard issues about security? Not sure. For a personal phone, it's about the coolest, easiest to use thing I've EVER seen. I have every email account I own synced to it and it works flawlessly. I haven't bothered to see if our IT guy could get me set up with my work email...maybe I'll let him play with it to see.

So basically, as I understand it, if Apple could get the Iphone to work with most Work Email servers, it would have all the functionality of a BlackBerry. But I could be wrong. Some of the BB gurus might be able to answer better. The only other thing I've heard against them is that some have trouble with the touchscreen keypad. I managed to catch on pretty quick, and actually like it better than the wife's keypad on her Treo.

Now that is the one big thing I miss with the IPhone. If they put a GPS chip in the Iphone and give it the ability to do turn by turn directions, in my opinion it will be the end all be all of Gadgets.

I'm guessin' that'll be the limiting factor for using them where I work...bein' the U.S. goobermint and all. We're on Lotus Notes. our POP3 connections are closed for security reasons, and we don't run Blackberry servers. However, I did demonstrate to the boss, that we can access our .gov webmail via the iPhone.

Actually, you may be in a heap of luck. Rumor has it that Apple is about to release Lotus Notes for the iPhone. See here for some more details. Originally it was rumored it was being released at Lotusphere, but apparently it's been delayed, but IS IN THE WORKS.
