The sales clerk at Staples recently talked me into buying the Staples brand black ink cartridge for my Lexmark at a slightly lower cost than the Lexmark brand, claiming theirs had much more ink and would last longer.
I put the new cartridge in the night before last and it ran out last night right in the middle of a batch of coffee bag labels, ruining about half of them (since I wasn't paying attention). I'm pissed. Granted, I was doing some heavy duty printing between labels and brochures but no more than I'd been doing the past week or two with the Lexmark cartridge.
The brochures eat a lot of ink so I got a price for Staples to print them for me. .78 cents apiece for two-sided color trifold! I think that comes out to much more than Lexmark ink cartridges. I need to find a good print shop.

For any professional color labels I'd spring for a color laser printer. It would probably lower your cost per label, but the initial investment is higher because a nice lowend color laser will run you $300 I think.

I actually put all my color InkJets in storage because the cost is just too high. My B&W Samsung ML-1210 Laster cost me $120 new. It is for years old and I just put in the 3rd Toner Cartridge which cost me $60. So I'm getting about 2 years out of a toner cartridge. Anything I want to print Color which is mostly just photos I take down to Walgreens or go online. The cost of Ink is just way to high.

I bought a color and a black today from them. I've been happy with the black so I figured I would try out the color. That's the true test. I saved 19 bucks by going with the cheaper version than the name brand.

I can get 4 (20ml) Black, 2 Cyan, 2 Magenta and 2 Yellow (all 12ml) cartridges for $12.97 cheaper than only one each of the "name" brand stuff.
