I follow the "Plan to not purchase" steps. They are easy.

1) Plan to not buy any cigars
2) Buy cigarsEspecially late at night when surfing through last minute auction prices :computer:
3) WTF did I just do
4) Start over
Usually how it goes for me. LOL

How about:
1)Buy cigars
2)Proclaim that these are the last cigars you will buy until date mm/dd/yyyy.
3)Buy more cigars before mm/dd/yyyy
4)Realize what I did
5)Become saddened by my addiction to HTF/rare cigars
6)Console myself by smoking a HTF/rare cigar
That is the plan I am on....But add after step 2 - Bet another BOTL that you will stick to step 2 Looser send the other a 5er

I have 11 boxes on my current buy list, but I will shop until I find great deals on them so I do not purchase in a certain time frame. Like short stories, I have 2 left in my box so I am looking to find a great deal and when it is the price I want I will pull the trigger. I have a annual budget and I blew it by about $1000 this year but that is less than last year. You also have to take in consideration that my wife puts in her requests and they must always come before mine. I do like wades plan but well that does not quite work out for me most of the time.

I have a spreadsheet that lists the cigars I have in my humidor and how many. Next to each cigar I have a column that asks if I want to buy more singles or splurge on a box; depending on how much I liked the cigar, I check the box or leave it blank. So if months later I see that I'm all out of Tat Angeles, then on my list, I'll see that I liked them so much at a certain point that I should buy a box when I get the chance. Ideally, my list is supposed to keep me in check, but there are so many cigars to try!

I can see how it can look difficult, and making the list was a bit tedious at first. But it just works for me; I don't buy many boxes, so my entire collection consists of mostly singles which are hard for me to keep track of without the list.

My plan was to fill my humidor.

Then I bought another humidor for excess

Then the excess humidor was filled.

Then I fabricated a coolidor and donated my initial humidor to a BOTL.

Now my Coolidor and humidor are at capacity. Finally I'm at the stage where I have to pass up some nice deals due to storage.

always have a cash stash for the sale items.... sometimes the stash is my savings,,, sometimes it's my mortgage!! somebody once asked me, "How many cigars do you buy in a year?" my response, "about a wife's worth!"

Luckily I have few bills and send most of my money to savings and retirement funds. Then I try to live on 18% for cigars. But every once in awhile I see a really good deal that I must put a bid on even though it requires taking money that should be going into my TSP. But you only live once. It also doesn't help that my fellow shipmates are poor and I often lend them money for important things like flying home for the holidays.

I watch the sales and buy my favs when they are on sales. End of year I stock up as everyone goes crazy, particularly on island smokes. The Boris, Drac, T110, Porkchop, and FF kinda screwed this up as they hit more or less all at once. Too many cigars, not enough money. Right now looking at Taboo's sale on Queen B's since there have been so many favorable reviews.
