What I find strange is that General Cigars is so concerned about protecting people from fake Cuban Cohiba's that actually say made in DR on the cigar. They are not counterfeiting the General Cigar Cohiba brand logo - they are faking the Cuban one and obviously so badly that buyers of neither brand would be fooled.
Dan Carr, president of General Cigar said, Protecting cigar consumers from counterfeiters and maintaining the integrity of our products is a top priority for the company."
Aside from it being a cigar it doesn't look anything like any of their products.
Wouldn't they be better served by letting people smoke the bad copies, so they think, if that's the best Cuba can do I'd rather stick with the General brand of Cohiba's?
Nope, why would they want people to think Cohibas are bad cigars? A lot of people who do not smoke cigars regularly think there is only one Cohiba company. General is protecting their name, be it cuban or not. It's all the same to the majority of people in the US. They are also protecting it because the embargo might be lifted soon and General owns the Cohiba name in the US... that yes, look like the Cuban branded Cohibas.
