Recently, while visiting a local B&M where the proprietor is from The Island, he showed me how to make a slant cut on a torpedo I had just purchased. He said that's how torpedos are cut "back home" and his reasoning was the same; the smoke would be directed to the pallet.I was in the Cigar Haven in Indy a while back, and Barbara, the proprietor had an odd use of the punch. A punch that doesnt go straight in, but you start it in lower in the cap(not on-center)and go up on an angle. The reasoning here is that the smoke will be pointed directly at the pallet.
yes, one of the main reasons i prefer a cut or punch in the center is it's rare i keep a cigar in my hand the entire time of a smoke...it's rotated ashed and commonly sits from time to time never entering the mouth at the same angle.Recently, while visiting a local B&M where the proprietor is from The Island, he showed me how to make a slant cut on a torpedo I had just purchased. But, since I have a habit of randomly rotating the cigar as I smoke it, I'm not sure I reaped any of the benefits.
