I also made to Life, but did Order of the Arrow for 1 year. I found out drinking and chasing girls was more fun than hanging with boys in greens and camping once a month. But some of the best times and stories in my life were from Boy Scouts. ,

I was a cub scout for about half a year, but when it came to the outdoor activities and camping, I decided the odds of being eaten by a wild animal or catching malaria were too high.

Also, I couldn't, and still can't, tie a knot to save my ass.

I am an eagle scout as is my son. Great family tradition. BradMc, I actually started college as a forestry major but ended up in business with an MBA.

It was actually the Eagle that got me into grad school. I basically screwed around tthe first two years then got married and worked 50 hours while carrying a full load and ended up with a 2.8 GPA. My advisor went before the board and waved my scouting background at them and I got in on a provisional. Graduated at the top of the class. Loved grad school. They treat you like an adult all of a sudden. MBA opens doors.

I never did 'Scouts, instead I got involved in a program the AG (Assemblies of God) started called Royal Rangers. Kind of like 'Scouts except more of a Christian theme. Never went all the way as a boy because I found the same distractions that keep most guys from making it that far (girls and booze). I came back to the program a little while ago (a few years) and am now a Commander.

I started in Scouts relatively late, I guess. No Webelos, no Cub Scouts--I started as a Boy Scout. My dad was the Assistant Scoutmaster nearly the whole time I was in Scouts.

I made it to Life...but then I got a car and a girlfriend. Ha-ha! I certainly didn't quit Scouts, but I no longer applied myself and consequently didn't make Eagle.

Oh, and I was tapped out for OA and went through that whole process; not as big a deal as I thought it was gonna be. But the big pocket flap badge was cool.

Seems like a million years ago now!

I got to Life, and quit when I started driving. (age 15 in MS)

I always regretted not getting my Eagle.

It was worth the effort, but if I had to make any recommendations to a current scout that was interested in becoming an Eagle it would be to finish before you get your driver's license. I finished up just a few weeks before my 18th birthday.
