Heading to Bardstown, KY for a few days to get away. Want to visit a couple of distilleries, do some bourbon shopping for either items that are only available in KY or distillery special bottles, and eat some good food. Any advice as to where to stay, what to do, where to eat etc. is appreciated. I'll be making this trip alone. If you are familiar with the Bardstown area please respond.

Haven't actually eaten there, but I've been inside. Cool place.

Whiskey museum, if you want to do something besides just hit distilleries.

Keep in mind, and you probably already know, a lot of the distillers are miles apart. Frankfort area, Lexington area, middle of nowhere area. And if by yourself you will be driving. Unless you look for some type of tour that drives you to a couple in a day.

Cool area thou. Have fun.

Rented a cottage for 9/28 and 9/29 in Bardstown. Looking forward to it. I was advised that if you are in for a short trip that Wed-Sundays were the days to be there as a lot of the restaurants and shops like to close on Mon, Tue.

We did Buffalo Trace and Old Taylor now known as Castle and Key. We had a special invite to OT not sure if they are open to the public yet but I'd recommend both if you can get in. I also went to Keeneland for a race day I'm not a horse person but had a blast and can't wait to go again!

I went there last fall. My girlfriend and I stayed at the bourbon manor, nice little place they have there. We toured buffalo trace, four roses, heaven hill, Willet and Barton 1792. We checked out wild turkey too. I think that buffalo trace, heaven hill and Willet are the best looking places (they are also more along my favorites distillers). They also have more of the gift shop only exclusives (Willet family estate bourbon is impossible to get outside the gift shop without paying crazy prices). That being said, I'd gladly work out a trade if you don't like them and wanna pick up a bottle for a fellow bourbon lover otherwise four roses can have some good finds, I personally love their private barrels. I also suggest heaven hill, do their upper end tasting, it doesn't include a tour but you get to sample some of their stuff before you buy any (I got to sample larceny, which I don't seem to like, their select stock which I bought, bottled in bond which I bough, and the EC 23, which was really good just expensive so I didn't grab it), it's awesome! Also look for heaven hill 6 year bottled in bond. It's more of a KY exclusive, wish I would have know when I was there. I didn't hunt a lot of stores just distillery tours.

For eating, there are some decent places, Harrison smith house is awesome (more expensive/upper end), but very good. They also have a good selection of poors, not the cheapest though. Otherwise we ate at a few other places, nothing bad but nothing that stands out for being awesome.

We did have some good pizza in Louisville at a bar, some
Neat places there. That's all I can think of off the top of my head right now, hope that helps!

Whatever you do, do NOT eat at the Taco Bell's there! They are exactly the same as everywhere else. #Disappointed

All joking aside, have fun! I've always wanted to do that trip! Hope you post some pics and reveiws in this thread - I'll be eagerly awaiting.

Keeneland or Churchill Downs can be a great time. Check and see who has live racing that weekend, if either.
