joined a couple of forums a few years back. one was so rude i never posted. the other had a mob mentality and was never interested in hearing both sides of a story. both left me pretty sick of online forums. after a particularly troubling event at the last site, i became aquainted with mr.punch. he mentioned botl to me, so on his recomendation, i checked it out. it's been my home ever since. and for those of you who may not know, mr. punch is dan at newhavana. he was just starting out his business back then, and as evidenced by what good people can do, both his business and botl have grown and prospered!

I was doing a google search for cigar-related sites. Many sites consisted of what was essentially someone's blog. And while many of those sites contain good information, what I liked about BOTL was the participatory nature and the collegial atmosphere.

I was trolling 2 other cigar forums at the time just looking up cigar reviews as I was first starting out. The layout of these said sites were awfully antiquated and basic for my liking. The wife saw how drawn I was to the lifestyle that she bought me my first (and only) humidor which was a 50ct from Cigar Star based here in Canada. The trolling then turned to searching for humidor seasoning tips. When my humi was up and running my next focus other than sticks turned to cutters and lighters and landed on Xikar. Absolutely fell in love with the Xi3 STK/F2 black titanium black cutter but didn’t want to order online and tried to source locally. After a few emails exchanged with the Canadian distributor to Xikar, the rep advised that the regional manager would be in contact with me directly……to which I never heard from. I hear Xikar has great customer service and their Canadian distributor does not reflect that whatsoever IMVHO. Anyhow, this experience pushed me towards the Palio cutter that I read about while trolling and on one cigar blog I like to frequent. Which stated that the cutter was made by Brothers of the Leaf LLC, not to be confused with Brothers of the Leaf dot org.

Long story short…bought the cutter and joined the BOTL and I haven’t looked back since.

Thanks for having me very happy to be here!

PS. The 2 blogs I still frequent turned out to be of fellow BOTL’s. Go figure lol.

Google searching various reviews of cigars I wanted to try lead me here. I've joined several cigar forums since, but this is one of the few I actually post on. Great forum!

Great stories, but mine is a bit less inspiring. When I was stationed in WA, a coworker got me into cigars. He would also spend a great deal of time on BOTL. While I would laugh and pick at him for being a "cigar nerd", equating herfs to Star Trek conventions, I did notice him playing some pretty cool games.

So, I joined because this site was one of only a few that had games and was not blocked by the firewall at work. Eventually, I started reading some of the comedy/ general interest threads while waiting for games to load. Then cigar related threads. Before long I was coming here to read and post, and not even playing the games. Now I guess I'm a cigar nerd.

Cliff dropped the hint. It's been cool watching this place grow. I remember it wasn't that long ago when there was only a handfull of active dudes...days could go by with only 2 or 3 threads getting a post.

I found out about BOTL by watching Mr. Glynn's Pinar Del Rio BOTL Short Run 2010 Cigar Review on YouTube.

This guy is awesome! A down to earth cigar review, and he does it as if he's talking to a friend. He definitely deserves all the free cigars people keep sending him for review!

I was on a couple of other boards before I came here. One was not user friendly as far as posting and finding posts. The other has the rudest people on the planet who ALL manage to be internet tough guys. It was disgusting to see how people will treat others when not facing them, when hiding behind a keyboard.

This board is the exact opposite. I have made friends here and smoked with some great guys from this board. I have enjoyed discussions on cigars, guns, video games, and god knows what else. LOL

I'm a big forum guy for all my hobbies so once I started getting into cigars I decided to shop around. I liked the smaller size of this group and everyone is so personal. It didn't take long for me to sign up!
