so you guys have discovered it. toasting the end and then blowing the flame into the cigar seems to be the most effective way to totally light your cigar without adding any lighter taste, like butane tang to it. I've been doing that for a few years now, and was reinforced in my beliefs that it is the best way to light a cigar after sitting with a few reps and seeing them do the same. Gives you an even light every time, and very rarely does the cigar arrowhead. Def test it out if you haven't already given it a try.

If you ever get "butane tang" then I would think it meant you were puffing with the valve open, but no flame. Butane burns clean. Now, a lighter that uses standard lighter fluid will add taste, even when lit.

Ususally I toast the foot while slowly spinning the cigar, then I take a puff or two to make sure that I have the glow I want. I may be making a total mistake though.....

it could be that, since my torch is now two years old, the burners aren't firing right, but from time to time if i light it and draw through i have noticed a slight twang of butane taste. agreed, zippos and such will pretty much do it every time.

What? Nobody uses $100 bills to light their cigars anymore? ;)

I just toast lightly and then puff while hitting it with the flame.

I love my torch for lighting up in windy conditions or outdoors... but given the opportunity I prefer to light with a match.

I start by "toasting" the foot to make sure the wrapper burns evenly, then rotate the cigar in the flame as I puff. Then, I let it sit for a minute to cool down before I really dig into it.

I think I'm OCD about getting an even burn. I probably touch up the wrapper more than I should, but I can't stand when one side starts to creep.
