I live in Chicago, so Binny's is always around to replace ANY stick that doesn't smoke right. Not many B&M's I have been to have done that for me though. Binny's is awesome when it comes to getting a plugged cigar, just bring it back for an exchange. I just recently returned a a Riqueza there because it was plugged, wasn't even lit, draw tool barely helped. Hassle free. Though it is rare I get a plugged cigar out of my personal cigar, 95% of the time it's fresh from a B&M. I wish all B&M would store at 65*/65%. I hate walking into a humidor it seeing it at 72*/71%, makes me cringe.

Wouldn't you like to know?
When I first started smoking I could always pick the one plugged stick in the humi. I also stayed away from cc's for a while because of it. Now I don't mind a tight draw so smoke a lot more cc's again and haven't had aplugged one in years.

Plugged cigars are a fact of life and we will encounter them from time to time. I bought a draw poker and had a friend of mine knurl the rod so when it slides thru the tobacco it gently draws only bits of the tobacco out instead of tearing it like some will. I have yet to meet a cigar that I can't unplug with this thing. I bet it has saved me a few hundred dollars in the last 5 years.

My first and only 46 mag was plugged so bad it was chucked in the first 1/2 inch. I'll problably give it a shot again one day but it left a bad first impression.

Over the years I've had a few plugged cigars, a quick skewer with a bamboo skewer and problem solved.
Great Idea..never thought of that...Thanks!!
I find that Gurhka cigars are the worst for this and nothing is more upsetting than spending money on a stogie and having it plugged up!!:argh:

With as many complaints I get from some friends, I wonder if the humidor enviroment is bad or they aren't patient when smoking cigars. They complain of plugged cigars or split wrapper (exploding).

The split wrapper may be caused by smoking them too hot or the drastic change in humidity environment. Is that correct?
Many plugged cigars are a funtion of the humidity they are stored at. It's not uncommon to get a box with lots of problems and be able to dry box the cigars before smokeing and have far fewer problems. I know everyone says 70% is the magic number but I far pefer the 60-65 range and do not have a problem with my cigars burning too hot from being dry even at 55%.

Somthing that I've noticed that is strange is I have never had a single vintage cigar that was plugged, don't know if it's the craftsmanship back then or the age, but never one with hundreds smoked by myself and my friends with me. I call vintage 30years old or more.

I have found that all the CC's from 99-01 are notorious for this and crappy wrappers that burn like paper. 98 and before are wonderful and yes you'll get a few but that happens with any cigar. 02 to present have been wonderful with very little plugs. As far as NC's I don't really smoke crappy brands I stick to my favs and I find that it's trouble free. I've never had a bad fuente except for maybe a splitting wrapper. The problems I have with cigars is wrapper splits especially with Pepins and some Tats, I think it's that corojo wrapper and also it really only happens in the winter when I step outside into that super dry air!

I've only had a plugged cigar twice. First time was with a Cohiba XV which from reading online isn't all that uncommon. Second cigar was a cusano I don't remember which one, but it was a lancero, which are plugged easily if not rolled correctly. I don't get too upset when that happens, it's just a disapointment. I look forward to relaxing and enjoying a cigar then nothing. 'You work hard for your cigars you shouldn't have to work hard to smoke them.'
