Good to see you're still here bro!
Still here! On blackberry now, but we are good. I live right on buffalo bayou and it is rapidly rising. We live on a higher floor so we should be fine, but there is going to be some major issues here in town. at least we have beer and electricity. It will suck when both are gone.

We made it through okay! Communications are pretty much down, I am on blackberry and that has been spotty. We got no real damage but others were not so lucky. I live near downtown and I think the skyscrapers shielded some of the wind. It was surreal. Sounded like a jet outside thw window for like 8 hours. Tons of trees down and windows broken but we are safe and have electricity but no water. I hope everyone else faired as well as we did.

Some random thoughts...

The exact center of Ike passed about 15 miles away. I slept through about half of it though and woke up when we lost power at 2am. Getting hit with the second part of the eyewall was extremely rough and scary. The wind between the houses made a unbearable whistle sound that put a lump in my throat.

Almost the entire west side of the fence went down and 3 or 4 big branches. One of the main limbs of the pear tree is still leaning up against the neighbor's house (it's been on the market for more than a year). I'll put up some pictures here soon. Tons and tons of downed trees all around. There's a house about a half mile away that got stabbed with two limbs of a huge oak tree down to the floor of the house.

The first night sleeping without A/C was unbearable - I sweated my balls off. Luckily, the next few nights were very cool and comfortable to sleep with the windows up. Just glad everyone was safe and everything is starting to get back to normal order. Great to be back!

We rode out a class 1 years ago. I can't even imagine what a 2,3,4 or 5 would be like. I hear you about the noise. That is what I vividly remeber. Glad you and your family are OK Eric. Blessed.

I knew you lived near my old stomping grounds, but my dad lived right on Buffalo Bayou. I used to shoot Coke cans with a BB gun in that Bayou. I remember when it would get close to over flow or even come over the top. Crazy times. Glad you are OK.
