Hell yes! Nice job on your first review! That would be the Trinidad Reserva Lancero (NC) (I'm pretty sure... It's been quite awhile lol) that is the best deal I've gotten on a cigar box ever.. 28 bucks on CBid... They weren't much at first but age wonderfully! And for 1.40 a stick. I'm glad you liked it.
Sooooo Nicaraguan, Honduran and Ecuadorian and not a sniff of Dominican anywhere?....I suck at this
Wow, $1.40!? It's a good cigar, for $1.40 it's a great cigar!

Today's smoke is the padilla 1932. From my understanding this is one of the ones rolled at the pepin factory?
upon cutting it, it had a very open draw, but it tightened up a bit after l lighting it. The first 2/3 of inch or so we're fairly bitter, then smoothed out a bit, and I get a taste on my tongue reminiscent of the taste you get from the inside of the shells of pecans with a pepper in the back of my mouth. It stayed consistent flavor wise most of the way through, then started getting bitter into the final third. I'd say it was a medium-full never really reaching full strength. I looked it up after smoking it, and honestly I don't think it's worth the price of entry at 13 msrp. It's not a bad smoke, but it doesn't suit my preferences.

Day 1: Lost City
Day 2: Fausto
Day 3: La Riqueza
Day 4: Cabaiguan Guapos
Day 5: La Casita Criolla
Day 6: Tat Red

This is a notch below the La Casita. I may need to smoke another lance tonight later-- something I know will be good.

It's a nice draw but smoke production is low compared to the others in the sampler. Would not smoke again. Flavors are muted. I'll check back in if it improves. It's not bad, it's just not *good*.

Rather than give each a numerical score, I'm going to start putting them in a ranked list as I smoke them:

Lost City
La Riqueza
La Casita Criolla
Cabaiguan Guapos
Tat red
Fausto

Holy Lance for my first lancero February cigar. I have really become a fan of the lancero this past year so I'm looking forward to trying a few new ones, just wish it was a warmer month here in KC. This is only my second Illusione besides the Rothschilds and a few puffs in I'm very pleased.

Nice review Spanks. You can tell whether or not it is a Pepin rolled Padilla by the font used. The script font used to spell Padilla on the one you smoked indicated that it was rolled 'post-Pepin'. The one shown below is a Pepin rolled smoked as indicated by the original block font.

Couple Lancero questions...

Has anyone tried the Fonseca yet that Small Batch was giving away with orders last month?

And I need some ID help on this Gurkha. Came in a blind sampler I bought before the refugee inducing server meltdown happened.

I believe the Gurkha is the shaggy foot. If you like it 5ers sometimes for up for like 15-20 bucks

A Viaje WLP TB7 this afternoon while watching a very entertaining North London derby between Arsenal and Tottenham.

The cold draw on this thing is amazing, huge mango hit, I could just sit and suck on it all day without lighting.
I've found when they're lit though, the draw can be a bit of a lottery. This one was ok but others have been a bit dodgy.
Some pepper and a note I only seem to get in Nicaraguan Viajes in the first two thirds then the mango comes back at the end.

Thanks for the info KK! Is the difference in flavor profiles big?
I can't make an accurate judgement on that because I've only had the Pepin Robusto and have had the lance in the non-Pepin variety. Liked the robusto, did not care for the lance fwiw.

On an aside, I've had both the 1948 and 1968 Padilla Lanceros and liked them both better than any other 1932 I've had.
