I guess I don't really have "calgon take me away" moments. If I had a less than desirable day, the golf course was always a good spot normally to clear my head. If all else fails there was always the bar.
Wow lol!! Haven't heard that in a while... or as they say today, a minute lol.

Golf is good... golf is always good.

Mine would be a little hunting shack on a private lake and 400 acres. A place where moose, elk and deer roam without a worry. I'd wake up to the buggles of rutted up elk. Throw a couple logs on the wood stove to keep the cabin warm while I was out chasing some of the greatest big game in the world.

I find that what I want in my "retreats" is 180 degrees different than my normal life. In my normal life I am surrounded by people and opinions all day. What I seek the most is solitude. A place I can go and not have to worry about other peoples opinions of me or my performance.
same thing I said, you just said it more fancy than me:)

I've always imagined how great it would be to own property in the middle of nowhere. Maybe 20 acres or so, with a good pasture. I want to grow food, tobacco, have lots of animals, lots of time. I think when I have a bad day, I just want time to myself, and that place "embodies" that want.
In a past life I had a lot half that size. 10 acres. Though I wouldn't consider it in the middle of nowhere, it was remote enough for me. Just maintaining the 10 - being outside a lot, provided me quite a bit of sanity.

It's not overerrated.

Mine would be somewhere tropical, maybe a remote beach in the Bahamas. It would involve a chair, a beer, and a nice stogie. Sometimes when it's extremely cold out and I'm having a smoke, I imagine i'm at the beach to try to warm me up. It doesn't work.

Thats honestly not all that hard to do...

Tons of land available out west.. in very remote places.. for very low cost..

Within a 20 miles radius of the property I've got in Southern Colorado.. you can pick up 5-20 acre plots at $600-$800 an acre, all day long..

Farming would be tough.. high elevation.. cold winters.. etc.. but there are some crops that grow out there.. and a few farmers in the area..

But animals arent a problem.. tons of game if you like to hunt.. and lots of people in the general vicinity of our place have sheep, goats, chickens, cattle, etc..

When I want to "leave it all behind" or escape for a week or so.. thats where I head.. cell phone reception is spotty at best.. no internet.. no cable TV.. etc.. just wide open space, beautiful views, lots of quiet.. and me, the wife, and the dogs running around.. I dont see another human being unless I want to (go into town to pick up supplies, or to eat a meal at a restaurant, etc..)..

I love it out there..

And my total investment in the place (to include building a small cabin, having a road/driveway put in, having dirt work done to be able to build the cabin, and then putting some basic furniture like beds, a table, and a chest of drawers, etc.. in the cabin).. has been less than what it would cost to buy a decent used pick up truck..

My place is in Costilla County.. about 70 miles north of Taos, New Mexico.. about 10 miles outside of Ft. Garland..

Land between Ft. Garland and Alamosa is SUPER CHEAP.... and there is lots of it available..

I have always wondered what it would be like to live in Sitka, Alaska
Don't know if I will ever get there but in the mean time I get out on Lake Superior fishing most every weekend and that seems to help keep the sanity. Nothing like having a cup of coffee with the sun coming up and have the drags start squealing.... Fish On

I dont know man, after that last RV trip and the way it turned out, you may want to come sit on my cabin porch for a while... :)
This has been the first time in almost 20 years of RVing that I did not make my destination. Actually lived in the coach for 7.5 years. But I would be glad to join you on your porch and have a great smoke.
