RP has kind of a bad rep in general around here. I get 5ers of Factory seconds from CA sometimes. They taste great and the burn has always been razor-sharp. That said, I would never pay MSRP.....

I can think of a bunch that I smoke quite often - Gran Habano Corojo #5, RP OWR Maduro, Gurkha Titan / Beast / Fuerte / Ancient Warrior / Warlord / Shaggy, Bahia Maduro, Nica Libre, Perdomo Slow-Aged Maduro......and so on

Not sure if it gets a bad rap but some of the Honduran rolled stuff is pretty good in my opinion. Hoyo Excalibur or El Rey del Mundo for example.

A lot of people have issues with Rocky Patel because of the whole dye thing...

I love a lot of the RP's though...Vintage 90, Edge, Decade...I have a 15th anniversary that I haven't tried yet.

I like the Gurkha Park Avenue.
Also the Don Tomas Candela
and the cigar.com house blends aren't bad for the money.

I'd heard of this dye issue.

Is it on all Rocky Patel cigars?

And I dunno, maybe I'm just not immersed in the culture enough yet, but I would think it's the flavour that really matters. And from what I hear RP's generally have oodles of incredible flavours.

It's not dye, it's just part of the rolling process. They use water when rolling, which leaches some of the color. Do a search for it here, there have been a lot of discussions about it.

Onyx Reserve. One of my favorites especially with a little time. Another would be Ashton Aged Maduro, don't hear much positive feedback about them, but a go to morning golf smoke for me.

Do Onyx's have a bad rep? I always thought they were a quality cigar. A box of their #4's was my first box purchase. Great smoke for the money.

And the whole dyed thing with RP, I think its blown completly out of proportion.

Isn't water during rolling quite a common practice, though?

I don't understand the problem, nor the bad rap that RP's get around here...

More so I think because they are an Altadis brand and the whole lawsuit thing with Pete. Although people don't necessarily bash them, they aren't given any props either.

My problem with RP has more to do with how he treats his B&Ms with all the "seconds" he sells and whatnot. He also has consistency issues from year to year because he doesn't own his own farms.

Also I've heard about some shady things about his business dealings.
