So lately I've been tracking down, stick by stick, all of the regional limitadas I can get my grubby mits on. What got my started on this was a gift from a now ex-girlfriend who brought me back from my favorite shop in paris, 3 different regional limitadas. Before smoking them, I read all the reviews I could find, and in the end was dumbfounded that my taste generally went against the reviews. The one that got horrible reviews was a personal fav. (Bolivar Petit Libertador) of the three, and others I found mediocre albeit got rave reviews. Since then I've had a few more from other countries, it's been costly, but fun. Anybody else have good/bad experiences with any particular regional releases?

Oh yeah, gotta love the regionals. Its frustrating at times for two reasons. 1. Some are hard to track down and 2. Most of them aren't all that great.

I was just chatting with another BOTL about this yesterday, he picked up some Ramon Allones Asia Pacificos and they looked insanely good. I'd love to take up this 'niche' of our hobby as well but the last thing I need is something else related to cigars/rum to tap my wallet!

As you try them I'd love to see some review.

I gave up trying to get them all. In the beginning it was attainable to get them all. Now, not so much and a relative hassle for some of them.

I am with you on this Cliff.

I would just ad my opinion that many of the RE's have been mediocre at best, command a hefty price, have questionable collectors value considering the "re-releases", and most importantly, my opinion that the focus of the RE, EL, Reserva, Books, etc... has led HSA towards ignoring and diminishing the quality of the regular production cigars.

That said, the PLL, RAB, Eminencia, Conde 109, and the Bolivar Elegante have all been steller cigars. Others I have had don't seem to live up to the "hype" and take away attention from the regular production cigars.

What really ticked me off was when the Swiss re-released the Eminencia and the Punch Robusto. I bought a couple boxes of each in 2005 and then they're released again in 2007 or 2008, I forget. There's no real pure collectible item that HSA makes anymore. Aside from the humidors and reservas. And now you have cigars that were already RE's in some markets in one year being marketed as the next great thing in another market the following year. Just makes no sense for a buyers perspective, IMHO of course.
