Anyone ever had a cigar by a company called Nub?
Tried one last week and hated it. I felt like I was trying to suck a golfball through a garden hose and it tasted about the same! :barf:
Also, it was like $9! Big mistake.
I'm thinking maybe I just smoked it wrong or something. Hoping someone can chime in.
Nubs were a concept by a former Oliva rep, Sam Leccia. Sam proposed that most cigars sweet spot were the middle 4", so why not just make a cigar from that part. Initially, Jose rejected the idea but a couple years later, gave Sam his blessing to develop and market the line using Oliva tobacco. Jose backed it, Sam created, blended, marketed and sold them. After a while, and I don't know officially what happened, they had a falling out and Sam lost the line as it was owned by Oliva. Oliva continued with the concept and Sam now has his own line of cigars.
Their market was 99.5% driven by the online cigar community. They're good cigars if you don't mind larger RG...all the way up to 64. I like the flavor profile and for a 4" cigar, they burn for a VERY long time. However, I find larger RG cigars uncomfortable to smoke. $9 is a bit pricey for them as you can get Oliva V's for that price, which IMHO is a far superior cigar. I would put them in the $4-$7 range and if you look online, they can be had sometimes for $3. At $3-5 a pop, it's worth the money with Cameroon and Maduro being my favorite. I would love to try one with a Sumatra wrapper though.
