Wouldn't you like to know?
I am pretty sure that is past the brush of stage. I have only seen mold that bad once and that was in Italy. Once it goes from white to that yellowish tinge that it has going in the pic I couldn't scrape it off with a finger nail. Sorry about your luck

Holy Mold! :eyequiver

A guy tried running that scam on me one time. I just told him outright that his humidity was way to much for the size humidor & that 'that is, without a doubt, mold'. If you don't ruin your inventory, you're going to make your customers sick. I went back 3 or 4 weeks later & nothing had changed - I turned around and walked out.

I like the line "That's either really bad meat, or really good cheese"!!! :headroll:

Ok well if it is mold and not in the foot of the cigar just wipe if off and you are fine. I as well as many others have had this issue. If it is fury then it is mold. And it looks furry to me.

Take them back to the guy that sold them to you and have him smoke one of his beautiful "plume" cigars. I bet he won't. Let us know how it plays out Excel.

The earliest I've seen with plume was on Oliva O's clothbands (Wade had some w plume) This was with about 5 years on them. Plume takes a LONG time. Years and years most of time. DO NOT smoke these cigars. You can actually see on the 1st 3 from left to right mold IN the feet. Sorry for your bad luck.
IF YOUR SHOPPING AT A B&M AND THEY TELL YOU IT'S PLUME DO NOT BUY. ALMOST ALL B&MS MAKE THERE MONEY OFF TURNING OVER STOCK. NOT SELLING 5 YEAR OLD STICKS.
Thanks for your pics if we all learn something everyday. It just makes us that much more informed when spending are hard earned money.

Damn, the last time I saw mold that bad my doctor prescribed me a cream. I can't imagine that they wouldn't take them back, especially if there are customers at the counter when you ask.
Haha now THAT first line is funny!

Yeah I wouldn't touch those things... anything having to do with mold makes me gag.

Good luck, and let us know what the shopkeeper says!!

Wow, I just saw this. Yeah, like others said, mold. Dude, How long these cigars been out? Plume takes longer to rise than that.

I'm gonna go with the rest and say that at first look it appears more like mold from the picture. When the mold is really white, it's tough to tell, but that stuff looks almost green! And I agree that these have not been out long enough to look like that. I have a couple La Riquezas from shortly after release, and they have just the beginning of plume (meaning a "twinkle" when you look at them in the sun, but nothing to the naked eye).

And do NOT give your B&M the benefit of the doubt. The employees are probably taught to say that it's plume no mo matter what (and might themselves not know the difference). My B&M has sticks in the cases that they must think have plume, but to me it really looks like mold. Even online customer service reps are told to always tell customers it's plume and not mold (even CI does this).

But if it were me, not only would I take them back but I'd make big deal out of the fact that they LIED to me and told me it was plume when it's mold that could literally make me SICK. It pisses me off when someone tries to screw me over ... or in this case one of my friends :argue:

If you want, I'll go down there and make him an offer he can't refuse ...

I appreciate the support and backup from all of you guys! :tiphat:

I've had one other bad experience and that was purchasing some dry and brittle sticks out of a LUCITE humidor at a news shop.... They indians that owned the newstand kept saying i had to wait for the manager or the owner each time i went back (total of 3 times w/ receipt). My banker gave me the money back, but i'm gonna go see the owner on my lunch break and deal w/ her personally. I'm also going to record it and make an mp3 out of the conversation and transcript. Once the bank gets a whiff of it, if she refuses to refund my money, i'll get it back and i'll expose their name and tell all of my friends not to patronize their shop!

Recording someone without their knowledge isn't legal in every state....

Some states let you record as long as one of the parties is aware. I would just try and get your money back or chalk it up as a lesson. Its not worth the trouble and aggravation.

not to ruffle any feathers, but it is your fault for buy something without knowing. If you did not know the difference between mold and plume, all the blame lies on you. I would highly suggest not recording someone without their knowing.

there is NO excuse for a shop to even sell sticks that look like that. it would be like a grocery store putting out rotted bananas and telling you to just wipe them off and they'd be fine.
i can't imagine ANY business person not being embarrased by having a product like that go out of their shop.

Ok well Again if the mold is not in the foot then rub it off with a cloth and the cigars are fine. You know what to look for in the future. I would say a person who is willing to tape a conversation is opening up a whole can of worms. It is a life lesson and you wont make the mistake again. I have been ripped off before with bad smokes many people here have. Just walk away and don't go back. My time is valuable to me and spending hours pursuing a purchase of less than 30 bucks is not worth it. Let it go and you will be a happier person.

I understand that, but it doesn't change the fact that he should be more informed when making a purchase, and he is wanting to tape a converstation without the other person knowing. Who seems more shady in the exchange?

forget recording conversations and all the James Bond stuff...
Just return the smokes, and tell them whats up... hopefully he will throw them all away and next time you walk in there you wont see any moldy cigars.
If you do, walk away and don't go back.

Yeah don't record the conversation, makes it look like you set up the whole thing from the start. Just go and get your money back, if they don't just tell everyone in earshot not to shop there. nothing hurts/helps a business more than word of mouth.
