Unfortunately these are 100% fake. Bands are off, boxcode stamp is off plus this cigar does not exist in this form.

The Comintur stamp is a big tip off. This for some reason shows up on fake boxes for some reason although it is never used on real boxes.
But are you REALLY sure???

Guess I will put them on Craigslist!! =0)

The Comintur stamp is on the Trinidads as well. So these too are fake?

was the thought that counts though, lol.
i see things like this all over craigslist, especially in canada, every one starts out with "just got back from cuba and have some official cigars to sell".......
tee hee, it's good for a laugh sometimes.
sorry brother.:sadpace:

Dont worry about...they were a gift, the guy probably didnt know that they were fake...If some of ya'll remember, I bought a box of Cohiba Explendidos that as soon as I open them bitches I knew they were fake!!! Embossing was f'ed, the construction was all f'ed up! veiney as hell!!! They still smoked pretty well... My rule is, never to buy Cubans from Cubans or visitors to Cuba, or anyone whos friend is Cuban...or any one who knows or has met Mark Cuban, or if they eat Cuban Sandwiches...well you get the point!

Just to be clear, both those Cohibas in the picture are fake...too many items to list as far as why they're fakes but they are. The most obvious, the Reservas came in a 30 box of various shapes as part of the Seleccion Reserva that were only issued in '02 and '03. Liek others have said, it's the thought that counts.

I may consider buying Cubans from a BOTL who enjoys a nice Fuente Cuban Belicoso however!

Hey I have purchased a glass top fiver count box on the beach in Mexico before I knew any better. Got the guy down to $20. Some of the best smokes I have ever smoked. Of course looking back on it, the cigars sucked, but the company and experience was great. Take them for what they are, a gift. The guy probably paid way more than they are worth and gave them to you. Smoke some, share some, give some away.

Every box of Cubans I have ever seen has come with a Habano S.A. humidification information sheet also which seems to be missing here. Too bad they aren't real, but its the thought that counts as long as he didn't know they were real either.

These came with the humidification sheet actually.

So should I tell the guy who gave them to me they are fake. I would hate to think he is buying them thinking they are real.

I would tell him. He might be spending a lot of money on something that he is really not getting.

My two cents. I usually smile and say thank you. If he paid a lot, he will feeel like a fool. He was trying to impress you. If you get to know him you can steer him to better places int he future.

The picture shows a cohiba humidification sheet. The real ones are generic habanos SA. Couldn't find a pitcure but this youtube slideshow shows it on like the 3rd pic in.

And I would follow Chuck's advice. If he was sincere in giving it to you there is no need to embarrass him.

Super-tough call on telling him or not, but I think Chuck swayed my opinion. I'm with him.
Yeah, I think I agree with Chuck also. If I get to know him better and am having a beer with him some day I could say "Hey, you know those Cohibas you gave me that time..."

Sorry about the fakes man! They could be really good cigars anyway!
As for telling him, I've found that it's always easier to break the news and also steer him in the right direction for future purchases. Maybe give him a couple names of legit vendors. That way, it'll come off more as an educational conversation than a bash (which he could take as a negative thing and be hurt by). After all, his intentions were good.
It's also a hard call because you're in the position of power with regards to the job. He's trying really hard to get on your good side, and if you tell him he bought you fake cigars (which he could take as meaning he upset you, gave you a negative impression, you think he's an idiot, etc.), it could be pretty frustrating for him and he might become unmotivated or think he's completely fucked up his chances of being on your bidder's list (which is quite possibly the complete opposite of what happened -- I'm sure you really appreciate the gesture).

So if you do break it to him, do it very politely and let him know how much you really do appreciate his offering.
