Come on Craig, tell us about meeting Pete!
I won't be telling you guys anything that you don't already know. Good guy, very convicted about his craft. I busted on him a bit and he gave me some solid responses that I thought were filled with honesty. I respect him for it.

We walked the fields with Pepin and it was a pretty telling experience. Stuff I asked about that Pete didn't know, Pepin answered. Strains of tobacco that were being grown for certain cigars in the future were pretty amazing to see as well. Plus, I think Pepin liked me. I was bothering him quite a bit with questions about strains & harvesting and all that stuff and he still ended up handing me a smoke. Who knows, it was probably just to shut me up :pokemyeye

All in all, I felt like I was a student talking with a TA and professor. One has been doing it for nearly a decade, the other, a lifetime. I think I know my fair share about tobacco but never in my wildest dreams would I think I know it all. Having some solid Q&A with these boys is something I am thankful for but it truly didn't even begin to scratch the surface. If anything, it taught me to recognize all the things I DON'T yet know. Notice, I said yet...

I went on the exact same trip back in September 2008....it was cigartastic!
This was a different trip for the record, we saw more than 10 factories, but our central base was DE CigarSafari... it was unreal and everything about the trip was amazing.

Thanks to Johnathan Drew, Pete, Dion, Orlando, Colin, Nabil, Jesse, the crew on the trip and many others that I forgot...

Wow, is all the comes to mind.

Whew...
I have finished the "rough draft" of my journal entries started throughout the trip. We're looking at 24 pages typed... Crazy.

I have sent the unedited version off to Colin & Bob (from Cigartourism & Cigarmedia, respectively) to proof and remove any "state secrets" or less than desirable descriptions of certain factories we toured. Hopefully these will be available for all to read on one of their two websites. I will keep you posted.

Craig, I'm looking forward to reading your journal notes. Stop by soon and let's grab a smoke.

Is he going on the trip this coming weekend?

What is his name or shop that he is going with?

Is he on BOTL?

FWIW, its dreadfully inexpensive to spend some time down there...
It would surprise you... especially if you live in FL.

Just book flights to and from NIC out of Miami for <$250.

Unreal right?
