why so? there is nothing wrong with doing it. If you want to cut a cigar and share it what's wrong with that?

Cigars are blended to be smoked whole. Ever noticed a change from the first third to second etc. If cut you lose what the master roller intended you to taste.

what im thinking is that the cigar is made from whole leaves. they are not med or short fillers. so if you cut the cigar in half, before you lite it, why wouldnt the leaf towards the foot be the same as the leaf in the head?? i would think as one smoked a cigar, its the tars and oils and what not that contribute to the flavor changes as the cigar is smoked, building up as it is smoked. so if you take a stick and cut it in half, wouldnt it be like smoking 2 smaller smokes and each half would change as its smoked????? ( hope this makes sense )

But each half wouldn't change in the same manner as the cigar as whole would or is intended to.

Anyways, this was covered a couple pages ago in this very thread.

Ted said he has done this and the individual halves were just as enjoyable as the cigar as a whole.

Smoking half would definitely never be the same as smoking the whole thing.

Maybe the first half would be the same but the second would be missing all the build up from the first half.

Cigars are meant to be smoked as a whole.

I would never do that.
OK, I'll admit ... I've cut a few churchills in half. Reason being that I loved the flavor profile of the cigar, but just did not have the 1.5+ hrs to spend on smoking the whole thing in one sitting. These were also cigars that are no longer made (Mayorga Green band) - so I had no choice of buying them in a different size. IMO, the smokes were just as enjoyable.

That being said, I would not do this on a something like a Cohiba VI or SLR DC.

ok, i must have misse that, but i dont understand why. when they roll a cigar, they take some leaves, bunch them up and put them in the press. would the flavor profiles change that much from teh tip of the leaf to the bottom where the stem would be???? :dunno:

damn!!! feel like a newb again!!!!!!!

You have to remember that all the smoke and tar and whetever else is produced when the leaves burn is basically being filtered through, and building up on, the portion of the leaf yet to be burned.

In effect, changing the flavor of that part of the leaf.

thats kinda what i meant. so if you cut the stick in half, you would get "half" of what you were meant to get. as there wouldnt be as much of a build up.

The two halves become different cigars from the original that they came from.

Still enjoyable but in no way the same...it's not possible.

Maybe the first few puffs but not in their entirety.

Anyways, it's just like telling people to smoke what they like.

People can cut their cigars in half if THEY want to...I never would.

I agree - it's not something I do even on an infrequent basis. The few times I have cut one were because I did not want to waste half of a favorite, no longer made cigar. The results were positive, but as was stated, you are really defeating the original purpose of the vitola.

Best rule of thumb is - if you want a smaller cigar, smoke one of the petite sizes.
