I wish it was that simple. For me, it is more about respect. I still call people from the older generations Sir/Ma'am, Mr./Mrs., etc... and, as a Geographer, I feel that you have to have that same respect for a place-name. I will rarely call Philadelphia "Philly" and I don't think I have ever called Chicago anything other than it's name (no Chi-town, etc...). It makes my skin crawl when I hear people call Albuquerque, "the Burq." I also get bummed when I hear people call Massachusetts "Mass," or Pennsylvania "Penna."Sounds like someone has a "complex" about this whole Cali thing... did some hot girl that you had a crush on in Jr High that just moved to California call you "one of those Cali boys" or something like that, and wouldn't go to the dance with you?![]()
I was born and raised in Philadelphia. I typically refer to my home town as Philadelphia, but haven't thought about it that much honestly. People always refer to my hometown as Philly... it doesn't bother me.I wish it was that simple. For me, it is more about respect. It may not be my home, but it is SOMEONE's home, and I feel as though I have to respect that. No level of local credibility will ever change that.
Haha. Me too, especially Atlanta slang from tip, jeezy, Luda etc.. Like the dirty south, a town and then the parts in the city such as the bluff, where the dome's at, college (collie lol) park next to the airport, zone 6 (east atl).Yep I learned all that Cali slang from rap music. Nah... I'm a pacifist. I probably would have busted your balls all night, and tried to silently fart around you.Guess it's probably a good thing I couldn't make it to the BOTL Herf this year... Sean probably would've knocked me out if I innocently said I'm glad to be back in Cali.![]()
