I believe WWII did help, as did the Roosevelt's "New Deal" which really help spur the economy. I guess it created a lot of jobs. It had it's share of failures as well.

yea the New Deal did not help at all..... but the worlds economy at the time was not the best either... all it took in that time was 10 people becoming unsure of the banking system... at that time the FDIC was nowhere to be found so there was no faith in the system so once somebody got scared... yea and we all know what happened after that

tobby4, now that you mention it (and I really think it thru) I believe you are correct. It made a lot of jobs, the jobs were paid for by legislature, which also meant more administration, which lead to big goverment debt, which means more taxes to pay said debt, and now we ALLLLL have to file taxes... which, gets us back on topic.

I'm not huge on buying books. I'm not really the type of guy to read them twice. I've heard about this Fair tax book before. I think I'll have to add it to the list.

Someone mentioned people paying more in taxes than some make. Damn straight! I can't believe how much some of you pay in taxes!

That being said, it reminded me of a funny story. A relative of mine had a child move out to Cali and set up shop doing computer related stuff. After a year of being there she got a call from said child and they chatted about taxes. Turned out the child (obviously grown up) was going to pay more in taxes that year than the parent made (and the parent's job wasn't low wage!)!

That's the one thing about bitching about how much taxes you pay. I'm happy to pay bunches more than I am now, because it means I'd be making bunches more! lol. That being said, I try to bitch more about where my taxes go and how they are collected (i.e. FairTax) than how much I pay.

Tax season sucks. I was 500 dollars over in income to make or break the Income Tax Credit buffer. So I lost out on like 400 bucks. My return sucks......that could be because I didn't make much money last year :disappoin

No Dependents and no house. I always end up having to pay around $300 every year, which I prefer to getting a refund (just to be clear I prefer owing the govt because I didn't pay enough, instead of the govt owing me because I paid too much). Too many of my friends treat the refund as "free" money, not realizing that they missed out on using that money during the year.
