Thanksgiving 2018

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! Unfortunately most of the family is sick and we didn’t get to visit family, but I was able to grab a turkey at least and make a little festive food.

Both bone-in turkey breast were wet brined overnight. Put each on a separate Weber. One just roasting with lump charcoal and the other getting a kiss of pecan and apple wood. My wife is handling the pies and sides. My parents are up along with my sister from Colorado that I don't get to see too often.

My wife, son and I are in a hotel in Washington DC. My wife had a doctors appointment at Georgetown yesterday and we decided to stay and not face the traffic. We picked up a nice turkey meal from a local restaurant and are having dinner on the hotel beds with our 2 dogs we smuggled into the hotel in a baby stroller. Not home but wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Smoked turkey, Gumbo, shrimp for the salad and cornbread dressing. Also served green bean casserole, candied sweet potatoes and turkey gravy. Chocolate and pumpkin pies for dessert.

This is the best turkey I’ve ever had. I’m a dry brine convert fo show. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
