Subscribed, interested to see what you find out!

Also, you should try and do cigars that vary, like heavy dark maduros (Liga Privada No 9 or Tat reservas), some CCs, something like a Caldwell LLTK... stuff that will allow you to see how the rH affects different types of blends and wrappers.
Oh man, I just read your post again and I'm afraid I'm going to have to disappoint on at least one level already. I only have one CC a pal gave me and it's tagged for a special occasion, TBD. I do, however, have some No 9s I'd be willing to throw in, and Caldwell is a brand I've been anxious to get my hands on!
Any other suggestions for "test subjects" are welcome!

Wow that is awesome! Can't wait to see the results. I use 65% myself and it seems ok...but I've never really experimented with anything else; at least not since I kept a humidor in 1996, lol

You don't necessarily have to use some high end or exotic smokes. This experiment might be more effective with cigars that you are well acquainted with, so that more subtler changes brought on by small degrees of humidity differences might be more noticeable to you. Different wrappers and countries of origin would be nice to see.

The majority will be ones I already enjoy and smoke often, because I agree that I should be more in tune with subtle changes. I'm also thinking I should see some results with sticks I have no preconceived ideas about, plus I would love to pull the trigger on a few I've been hesitant on. I mean come on, who can argue with "scientific" reasons to try new smokes? Smoking for science! :woot:

Sounds like fun. I look forward to this progressing. I am curious as to your findings. I have experimented with 62,65 and 69 and have made my personal preference so will be watching to what you decide.

I'm quite interested as well; I'm using two tuppers (till I get my new wineador) and recent purchases are kept in one at 68-70 for aging while my ready-to-smokes are in the other at 65-66%. Its been working, but I'm open to his experiment for guidance.

Also off tangent, love the avatar @Mossome ! My brother and I bred a couple of litters and they're the greatest!

Funny, that's exactly my RH setup! Coolers at 68-70, ready to go Tupperdor at 65. Sometimes I grab from a cooler, but I've never really focused on what the RH does to the sticks. I've recently tried getting a couple old wooden humidors up and running again, but this winter has been an absolute killer for the humidity. They tend to end up living in a cooler at closer to 70 after a few weeks of constantly dropping RH.

I live in an arid (extreme drought) part of Texas and I find that 65% in a sealed environment produces highly smokeable sticks, even as it did when I lived on the humid Gulf Coast!
This is why I'm so curious about your worthy effort!

OK, the "GreatValudors" have been picked up and a tentative list is in the works. So far I'm looking at JdN Cuatro Cinco, LP No 9, PDR Sun Grown, and VIP Natural for selections I've had often. I also bit on some Caldwell Long Live the King and The King Is Dead, as well as some San Lotano Connecticut for untried offerings. I'm thinking of rounding out the group with a Hemingway selection, I've had a few and have been looking for excuses to stock more. I think this gives a pretty good cross section of sticks, but if I'm missing some demographics let me know.

Never tried the Lotano Connecticuts but the New Worlds are delicious! In the Hemingway, I like the Signature vitola, but its your experiment...

Oh man, I just remembered candela. My first was in 99 or so, and I distinctly recall never wanting another cigar again! My second was a couple months ago and I think it was too soon after the first to give it a chance. I think I better look in to a candela option and give them a real chance.

I used to go w 70 but have been using 65s lately and my sticks seem to smoke much better. If you need more room check out the green field boxes in the hunting section they work really well!
As far as "normal" storage goes, I'm beyond set! Recently consolidated two 48 qt coolers to a 150 qt model, and still have another 48 about 1/2 full with low end budget bundles for yard work and moocher fodder. I have been looking at ammo boxes, but figure I'll wait. The new GreatValudors are just the cheap Ziplock/Tupperware disposable options. I think the smaller space will be fine for my needs with this (plus, only 1 Boveda per container), but someone can feel free to tell me I'm wrong.
